Picking JD is absolutely doubling down on his base and vying for votes in the Midwestern swing states. He's more like Trump than any other option, so this idea that he's pandering to the left with this pick is preposterous.

He could still hold the same opinion, but being Trump’s running mate is mutually beneficial. He becomes an under 40 vp and can very well be president before age 50 and have the power to implement his own beliefs. If you want to influence on this kind of scale you have to know how to play the long game, that’s politics unfortunately.

There is nothing wrong being introspective. We all do it, but not everyone has the story he has getting out of his area by joining the military and being deployed, attending one of the most prestigious law schools and then marrying a minority.

You aren't getting it. He isn't 'forced' in the sense of a literal gun to the head, I obviously didn't mean that. For certain career advancements, people who came from nothing and working class families often have to bite our tongues and work for people we disagree with, or even don't like. It's just the way it works. Usha Vance went from working for MTO to Bret Kavanaugh, two completely polar opposites. She had to have either disagreed with either MTO or Kavanaugh as they have two completely different ideologies with one being a deeply progressive institution and the other very far right, but she worked for both and did a fantastic job for both because she's a professional who's good at her job. Sure, you can avoid certain bosses and take the long way around; but if you want to affect change, and I mean really affect it in the grand scale of things you have to advance as fast as possible.

And my post was in response to LakersLegend under the assumption that Vance still actually doesn't like Trump. Maybe he did 180 on that, I don't know, but of course he's going to say he did in order to become vp... who wouldn't? But everything he used to represent: pro union, anti corporate lobbyist, closing wealth transfer loopholes(he doesn't like nepobabies) etc. are things that are very anti-Trump. In fact the only thing he probably had in agreement with Trump's administration was securing the border.
