All indications point towards him not staying in, and they don't care about 'wasting a future candidate' because they think Trump is still beatable; just not by Biden.

Harris is the obvious and most likely replacement and she's not a serious future candidate anyways. She has more of a chance on short notice than if people have ample time to get to know her or her skeletons, and general incompetence.
