Clippers are sending Russell Westbrook, second-round pick swap and cash to the Jazz in a sign and trade for Kris Dunn, per
@wojespn

Westbrook is “expected to agree” on a contract buyout with the Jazz, clearing the way for him to join the Nuggets

Everyone clowns on westbrook, but this is a good addition for Denver who are thin on bench guards. He should be fine in spot minutes as long as he's not sharing the floor with Jokic

It's a TERRIBLE move, he has zero emotional control and is a net negative in the playoffs.

Current Westbrook is a liability, period. He cant even shoot the ball straight. He's a turnover machine, and bound to get ejected when it matters most, which is actually a good thing for his team but in theory should be a bad thing.

He doesnt belong in the league anymore. Honestly this is such a dumb move by the Nuggets.

I think we were already there but now, officially, RIP additional Jokic titles.

Much better than Reggie Jackson.

Depends on how engaged Russ is off-ball but with his athleticism & his ability to attack the rim he could be like a smaller Aaron Gordon for them when he's sharing minutes with Joker.

The BEST case scenario is he does some useful things thanks to his tazmanian devil motor, and then negates them all thanks to his tazmanian devil motor.

Worst case scenario is he doesnt even add anything positive, whilst nevertheless dragging down the team's IQ and emotional stability.

The common denominator is he WILL be a basket case, out of control brick machine. The guy just isnt dependable in any playoff scenario. There's a reason two playoff teams who could use more talent just washed their hands of him. They'd be better off giving minutes to a decent g-league player who might actually turn into something.

Really solid move for OKC and Dallas.

They're not making him the star they're just asking him to get some points while starters rest. Denver has been bad in the minutes Jokic is resting. This would give them a chance to score in those minutes. They would be better if they had been keeping the players they are constantly losing but since they are trying to save money this will have to do.

I think the logic for the Nuggets is giving Jamal more load management so he can be healthy for the playoffs.

Yeah, just what the game needs, more load management. God forbid they just reduce the numbers of games.

I'm guessing they played 82 in the first place because that was the amount needed to turn a profit and actually make a livelyhood above the poverty line as a basketball player in 1961 or whenever the current schedule started.

Now players train harder, perform harder, put more torque on their bodies and are inching toward making a million dollars PER game... but God forbid they scale back the schedule a bit to keep players healthier so that competitive quality is preserved. Can't live with 50 million and a better product when they could be making 56.

Am I the only one who read that Westbrook was a player Jokic loves and was pushing them to sign behind the scenes a while back? Or did nobody take it serious?

I saw the story 2-3 times.

Jokic is said to be a big fan.

I can see it working solidly. Jokic is a great screener and he doesn't need the space other bigs need when rolling to the basket due to his floater and high-release mid-range game. And great passing. Westbrook not drawing much defensive attention in the PnR is less of a concern.

Russ + Zubac was a good PnR tandem and Ivica has the best floater/paint-extended game outside of Jokic.

Russ gives Denver an actual playmaker outside of Jokic. And there should be great cutting opportunities for him with Nikola's playmaking from the paint-extended/free-throw line/nail area. Not to mention the Nuggets like to play up-tempo, getting out in transition and inbounding fast for early offense.

Even if it's just to help them in the regular season it's still potentially a win. Jamal will inevitably miss 20-30+ games.

It's not bad if Westbrook can actually accept his role, he actually did a good job with the Clippers last season, but went back to thinking he was 2017 Westbrook in the playoffs and it cost the Clippers big time, he was pretty atrocious. He's very hot and cold and isn't a 3 point threat, but could be an asset if he settles down, but that is a big "if."

The Westbrook with Zubac and without Harden lineup minutes tended to do well. I remember before they got Harden LAC was killing it. The [Westbrook, George, Leonard, Covington, Zubac] lineup was +38.4 in 50:51 minutes of game time. A small sample admittedly, but not too shabby.

I can see the [Westbrook, Braun/Murray, Porter, Gordon, Jokic] lineups functioning in a similar fashion.

westbrooks leading the bench unit. Malone does not like staggering his starters besides murray and that was out of necessity last year. It's going be westbrook/saric and young guys and that lineup is losing to other benches unless young guys like peyton watson make a big leap

Well Jokic is a lot easier to play with than someone like Harden and PG. Iso guys that love to dribble dribble dribble.

Yeah, well, that's how Lebron felt too until he actually got on the court with him.

Solid pickup. I’m cautiously optimistic. Russ isn’t going to be asked to be a star here, just help run the second unit. Definitely can’t be worse than Reggie jackson so it’s a nice upgrade for the min

You are in for a huge shock.

They basically lost Pope and got Westbrook. This isn't good.

Can people stop saying we swapped kcp for RW?

Two completely separate events. If anything, Russ replaces Reggie. And that’s likely an upgrade considering how bad Reggie was

Yes the loss of kcp hurts. Has nothing to do with Westbrook.
