Does this mean that Jazz build around Markkanen or is he being set up for some other big trade? :confusedshrug:

Markkanen is pretty good, but I don't see him as a tier 1 star or becoming one.
Then again Utah haven't had a tier 1 star in 25 years, so maybe a tier 2 or 3 star is good enough.

He's a quality player, but, it just doesn't make sense unless they are planning to trade him. The pathway to becoming a contender while not having any young developing players on a star trajectory is simply unclear.
They are a weaker sports market, and building through free agency is slightly more difficult now having a $47M average yearly salary clogging the cap.

Ainge held on to Pierce for years after people were saying that he should trade him. Ainge isn't going to make a deal just because other people think he should, he's only going to make a deal if and when he thinks it's the best thing for his franchise and the best trade he can make. Until then he obviously feels the smart thing to do is keep Markannen on a deal that seems to be market value. Allstar in his prime getting 45 to 50 mil per is the going rate and means he can always be traded. Gobert got Ainge 5 first round picks why settle for less for Markannen?

I feel D-Williams was a tier 1 star for a few years before falling apart.

Never got to watch him before injury but was he at the same level of D-Rose, Iverson, etc? I don't think so.

Peak Iverson or old Iverson?
What was so good about D-Will? Wasn't he essentially also just an athletic small chucker, like a better Baron Davis? I really don't know, I didn't watch at the time.

Davis is more comparable to iverson. Low efficiency gunners. Deron ran dick mottas flex at a high level. Hard to imagine rose, ai or baron running that offense inder sloan

He was an actual point guard? Maybe more like Steve Nash without the shooting but more driving?

He played stocktons role with more scoring and boozers injured ass instead of malone. 3 level scorer and playmaker
