I get why you would say that and I respect it, but for me it's Seinfeld. I agree that Sunny at its best is better than Seinfeld, but it is not as funny overall imo.

when i was younger, i appreciated seinfeld more...like watched an episode or 2 every night before bed.

then it grew old quickly, as in, the comedy kind of became stale after a while bc it's the same concept over and over again. jerry seinfeld may quite literally be the textbook definition of mediocre. he does his shtick good and consistently...but it's mediocre at best.

sunny has had a lot of moments that have had me rofl'ing, whereas seinfeld may have one or two, the only ones i can remember are both george moments (vandalay industries and the pool was cold scene lol).

My Mt Rushmore would probably be

Seinfeld
The Office
Sunny
Arrested Development

Friends is legitimately the most overrated show of all time.

I tried to give Friends a shot, but like the 2nd or 3rd episode in, this came up.

This happened years ago, and I'm still scarred by how lame and unfunny it was. It's insane to me this show gets lumped in with Seinfeld.

Seinfeld is the only Sitcom I can watch without starting to think about turning it off to do something more interesting. A classic for it's time.

I love how this scene goes from George and Jerry conspiring together to fool Duncan, only for George to get cocky, and having George and Jerry go at it to the point where George decides to leave before accomplishing what him and Jerry both sought out to do. :oldlol:

Seinfeld is a cut above. IASIP is a respectable knockoff and Friends is a commercialized knockoff geared toward a female audience. All are worth watching though.

Watched friends, loved it. It's a solid, lighthearted show.

Watched Seinfeld, liked it. Didn't love it. There are parts that are very annoying and unfunny to me, like the Kramer character.

Tried watching Sunny. Didn't like it. Maybe didn't give it enough chance.

Out of the three I'd say I prefer Friends.

Friends was mostly a show for teen and pre-teen girls.

That's how people got introduced to it, but it caught on. I had friends who were really into it. It grows you on, like McDonalds or something, cheap comfort food.

Did you watch all of Seinfeld? Kramer is a work in progress in the beginning. But once they (Producers + Michael Richards) figure the character out he works a charm.

I have to admit this about Kramer, I always felt he was very inconsistent. When he was on, he could be absolutely fvcking hilarious and befit of his iconic reputation. But more often than I'd like, I felt he came across as too much of a sitcomy character, and I would find him unfunny and even annoying.

Still a great character and net positive for sure, but I always felt George was the true star of the show, imo arguably the greatest sitcom character ever.

Sunny is kind of a wacky over the top humor but I always found it much funnier than Seinfeld or especially Friends which is like a Grey's anatomy chick show.

I know I'm in the minority in this, but I never really got into Sunny. I kinda agree with tpols that it was over the top for my liking. But I might give it a second shot in the future.

I actually watched Friends before Seinfeld as a pre-teen and thought it was decent (I wouldn't even touch it as an adult), I got into Seinfeld very early in High School I believe and it wasn't even a contest, Seinfeld was superior to me at the time, even more so when you turn into an adult.

I loved The Office when it was airing, but still not on Seinfeld's level. I actually remember watching the episode when Michael gay kissed the other worker to prove he wasn't homophobic when it was aired on TV and I couldn't stop laughing.

Even though I really like Sunny, it was hard to get into it and I still never watched it all the way.. I think I watched like 3 seasons.

Friends was a much easier watch, light hearted, goofy and over the top of course, but I really liked it. Feel good series and you cant say it doesnt have its good moments.

Seinfeld is the best.

GOAT humor, always interesting, meaning behind it, and not even too unrealistic.

Sunny is far less consistent than Seinfeld, it took several seasons to really hit it's peak, and the last few seasons have seen a drop off as well. I'd say roughly seasons 5-11 were consistently hilarious and the shows peak, the rest of them certainly have their funny episodes, but they also have true duds I skip whenever I rewatch it.

Seinfeld was remarkably consistent, out of 180 episodes there were only a handful I would say were truly bad.

george and kramer were the ones that really kept that show alive.

George was the MVP, he was Charles Barkley of the show. But Jerry was the Ernie Johnson; he played the role of the straight man, the voice of reason. You needed him to ground the shenanigans. George + Kramer with no Jerry would be like Chuck + Shaq with no Ernie. Too chaotic.

I think Sunny is as good as anything at its peak, but it feels more of a sitcom than Seinfeld. It is difficult to binge it, because the characters feel a bit cartoonish after a while.

Exactly and you can watch Curb Your Enthusiasm to see it. George is basically Larry David, but unlike George, Larry just seems like an insufferable asshole when there's nothing holding him back. Which is funny, but not as relateable as George.

About Kramer, he adds a random element to it and has some legendary episodes such as the one's with lawyer Jackie Child's and all his schemes to get rich. Not to mention when Newman is involved too.

what seinfeld had going for it is it didn't have arcs. Nobody got married, nobody had a baby (iirc? lol maybe I'm buggin'.) I feel that is mostly what happens in sitcoms, like compare to friends, they were progressing through life. Everything in seinfeld was just comedy, and while stuff happened, it never tried to be emotional or interesting in a narrative sense. In that way, it was unlike the other sit coms and that's why it was 'better.'

I do think sitcoms are something you outgrow, in regards to watching them religiously, but I mean, there are a bunch of sitcoms I can turn on and be like lol for awhile. Then there are ones that I'd be like NO, and I'm putting Friends up there.

There are probably 50 good enough sitcoms that I would watch if it came down to it, not counting cartoon stuff.

Maybe cuz of various family ( rarely if ever watched sitcoms with friends) or various eras, but I have seen a lot of different sitcoms. I dunno how often I was like yeahhh time for (...); I own no sitcom box sets or anything. I HAVE COLUMBO.

The genius of the Kramer character. He's so silly, but it's believable. It's not an act. To him, it's normal behavior. Here are a couple of examples:

Good point about Seinfeld. You can catch just about any random rerun on TV without having watched any previous episodes.

Unpopular opinion here I suppose but I actually love Friends. There are certainly cringey jokes but some of the character building is smarter than you think and I also grew up with it so it’s a comfort watch for me.

Sunny is my favorite show of all time. Peak sunny is the funniest thing that’s ever been on television.

Seinfeld is good but slightly overrated to me. I don’t really care about Jerry and his acting kinda sucks. Costanza is obviously GOAT level though.

First idk how many seasons of Sunny was really funny, up to maybe 2015? 2017? I can't recall exactly when it started to not fit anymore but the prime episodes made me laugh way more than the other two shows combined because of the absurdity. The actors started getting way too old for the gimmick of loser bar owners though. Glanced at the latest episodes in recent years and the Dee actress has a typical SoCal mom plastic surgery face and everyone looks aged ...but the Hollywood non GMO organic whole foods kind of aged not the actual trashy bar fly type of aged so it doesn't even fit or make sense the show should have just had a hard cut off long before that happened because nobody should really want to see how trashy bar owners are doing in their mid 40's anyways.

Friends or Seinfeld was a completely different kind of humor, more friendly and less in your face so it's better for most casual viewers. Wife for example prefers these over Sunny for those reasons. Didn't feel like they dragged on beyond their expiration date either.

Seasons 4-5 of Sunny were the peak but there are great episodes peppered in between.
