I remember something about this awhile back. I think where Dragic is from there’s a tradition where when you are retiring you have a friendly game with all of the guys who you played with and faced over the years. At first it seems a little strange but it’s actually a pretty cool thing.

I visited China in the Summer of 2009. Met CP3 and Ron Artest randomly in the airport (separate times!). Chinese folks love basketball. Got to play some pickup with Chinese kids, and some of them could play.

The Chinese don't have a lot of the freedoms that we enjoy, but they never have. Things like freedom of speech don't really have a cultural basis there. The current regime (Not just Xi, but those before him too) has vastly increased the quality of life for a huge amount of people. They took me to the hood (Hutong), then took me to an urban planning seminar that was basically: "Here's how we are going to improve these people's quality of life." They took me to spend two days on a rural farm, then took me to a seminar that was basically: "Here's how we plan to enable these folks to move to a city and join the 21st century economy." It was impressive.

If you are an ambitious young person, you take a battery of tests to determine your intelligence. Really smart people get placed in charge of developing a shitty place, and can't move up unless you make a measurable impact on the people's quality of life. Then, you get more responsibility. It's an interesting system.

I wouldn't want to live there, but as a westerner, there isn't really a time in history where I would want to live there. The mindset is just really different.
