I can understand a player not being shredded but for a perimeter player to be developing the kind of body we see here the eating and/or alcohol consumption would have to be crazy.

All it would take for him to develop that type of body that quickly would to continue to have the caloric intake he has while playing but stop playing for a few months.

Looks like he is gonna work himself into shape during the regular season like he seems to always do. Shame he doesn't take care of his body, if he keeps it up he will be a shell of himself by the time he hits his 30s.

This is now officially a serious problem. He got into pretty good shape last summer but gradually became heavier and heavier as the season wore on. When he turned up fat a couple of years back, he laughed it off by saying he "enjoyed himself too much". Well it seems he cant stop "enjoying himself" and its got worse.
He either has a serious drinking/food binging psychological issue or he simply doesnt give enough of a shit about his NBA career. We all know how this sort of thing ends. Production will drop, injuries will happen and he won't fulfil his potential. He'll also likely be done at a relatively young age. The Mavs trainers should have been all over this years ago. They aren't doing anything or aren't doing enough. It seems the franchise are happy to placate him in fear of losing him. It's embarrassing for any professional athlete to be this overweight but in this sport where athleticism is paramount, he should be ashamed of himself.
Zion to his credit has trimmed right down this summer. You wonder what state Luka will be in come opening night.

He's skillful enough and savvy enough to be a 30 point triple-double threat through his current deal and then be offered 400 mil or whatever huge number for his next contract. This isnt the way to play until you're 40 but playing out of shape he's still got some people that think he's the best player in the league, hard for the team that will give him every dollar they can to rein him in under these conditions.
One thing that will limit his teams is that in that shape defense will continue to be someone else's job. If you are in a series vs Dallas how can you not go at this guy all game long? I'm still shaking my head at Minnie.

We've seen this time and time again with the so called "skill" players. People say, "he doesn't rely on athleticism, with his skills he'll be dominant until he's 40".
And then we see the Marc Gasols, the Kevin Loves, Barkley, the Dirk, Shaq, etc. Having 0% muscle definition equals falling off a cliff at 32-33 typically. There are exceptions like Durant, but they're just that. If you're walking around looking like an everyday American who barely hits the gym, your peak will be shortened. Jokic only has a couple years left, and Luka will be a shell after 31.

Despite Luka looking like a giant, the Lakers are reportedly making a push to make him the face of the franchise after LeBron James retires
Told you.
AD will probably still have a few years of high level play too.

Both Luka and Jokic can keep playing until 40, unless rules change drastically.
Luka can literally just play power forward and bully in the post.
It does seem likely that both will probably retire early and eat, drink and be happy.

He either has a serious drinking/food binging psychological issue.
Probably has something like ADHD. Explains his inability to control his emotions and also his single minded obsession with basketball, except video games and food.
Get Luka on some meth.

Where did I say they would retire? They will simply no longer be superstars past 32.
Their only hope of widening that window to 35-36 is to take the Curry path who has added muscle and is in top shape, and very much looks the part of a professional athlete. Whenever guys shed a ton of weight, but still show up with no muscle definition like a Marc Gasol all it tells us is they're actually cooked. I see the same thing happening with Jokic in 2 years.
He'll be putting up 19/7/7 type numbers and living on reputation of being a superstar, but no ability to simply dominate consistently.

roid's make a player look bigger
If he was doping to get better at basketball he would be training hard to build up his endurance. His main flaw is that he's a bad defender and he's a bad defender because it's hard for him to do everything he does on offense and then give a good effort on D. So why would he take steroids but not bother to work on his body? That doesn't make any sense.

Roids max out muscle and vascularity. If Luka is doping he needs to find a new supplier.

I mean, maybe he did a little? I think the jersey is a size too big for him honestly and makes it look worse than what it actually is.
