Yes, he was traded there on draft day in 1998, for Marcus Camby. He didn't take the news too well, he didn't take the Knicks call for days. By the way, I see you guys are saying the names on that Raptors roster, it was quite deep actually, they also had Keon Clark or Antonio Davis. It just shows you Vince Carter wasn't as obsessed with winning as other superstars of that era. He should have gone further with those teams, and he even missed the playoffs in the following seasons.

Finally started taking a step back on some of those 18 footers and might’ve been the best lob throwing Non point for a while there. Maybe best period if not for GP and Kidd. Raptors Oakley today would be a stretch 5 throwing dots from the high post.

Although the list might be longer than those 2 point guards you named if you take out the vince carter effect, you're absolutely spot on about his underrated years with Toronto.

Thing is Oak was throwing amazing passes his whole career. But when they don’t end in some highlight from Jordan or Vince, you just don’t see them enough for the public to remember. He probably would’ve become famous for his touchdown passes to Jordan if he had stayed on the bulls.

My memory was that after a year or so of Carter getting beat up, they traded for both Oakley and Antonio Davis, as a means of protecting him, and McGrady. I believe it was the pick that became Jonathan Bender for Davis. And part of the thought was that Oakley served a similar role when he was young for young Jordan. Mainly punching guys in the face if they committed a hard foul on a drive by him. I also remember thinking it wasn't a great idea at the time. Bender wound up being a bust. But Camby had a good career. I think Camby may not have been able to wrap his head around not being the guy on that team after they took him second iirc. I'm not sure getting both of them was necessary.

If you don't remember Oak on Toronto, you're not playing the Immaculate Grid everyday.

Crazy to think Vince Carter played with Oakley and Olajuwon within a season of each other on the same Raptors team. LOL

Camby and Carter never played together in Toronto. Camby was traded in the 1998 off-season, and Carter was drafted in the 1998 lottery. I think they traded Camby because he spent too much time on the injured list.
