I don't agree with Anthony Edwards at all but Magic Johnson's retort was substantially dumber and it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Someone had to win a championship even if everyone sucked compared to today's players, so nothing he said disproves or is any type of argument against Edwards' statement.

Magic Johnson is probably the dumbest truly all time great player. I can't think of a dumber one.

Yep.... Magic has proven over the years more often than not that when he opens his mouth, dumb stuff comes out.

Magic was one of the most skilled players of all time.

He was a phenomenal free throw shooter, became a great 3 pt shooter, the best passer ever (is that not a skill?)

Magic could have given a more detailed answer but when you're Magic Johnson it's just easier and more macho to say what he said. It out Ant in his rightful place.

Between the Ant overhype from the media and his disrespect towards the previous generations and just immaturity overall he's becoming somewhat unlikeable to the 30+ age group of fans that aren't from Minnesota.

Im so nba'd out

well damn :oldlol:. this next generation is even more disrespectful than us. We just use to call the white guards(minus Stockton & price) in that era trash and plumbers. These kids are even calling magic johnson, bird, and kareem used car salesmen :ohwell:.

but both generations agree lebron > Jordan.....and thats all that matters (handshake emoji)

edit and in 50 years when all the Jordanaires are gone. Thats all that history will know/remember for the history of time.

He could've just said Ant sucked at FIBA ball which takes more skill than the lay up line that the NBA has become, instead his response was just silly and useless.

Good clapback.

Ant talking about an era he never played in, never watched, and made an unverifiable claim about deserved a very uninsightful response. Why spend time trying to refute it if you don't need to?

I think Ant might be psychotic in some way, he doesn't seem all there.

Morant is worse. But yeah, he's becoming rowdy now.

Now that I've put a little thought in it, Hakeem is the most skilled low post player I've ever seen. Jordans era.

The great players from the past.... Jordan was extremely gracious towards the previous era of players. Duncan, Kobe always respected who came before them. Lebron is a historian of the game and has immense respect for who came before...

Take notes Ant

He was fifth in total makes in his MVP season and shot 38.5 percent on them. This was elite production back then.

It was just one season but he went from shooting 15 percent on 25 ATTEMPTS a season in his first four years to MAKING 105 on 38.5 percent by '90

Great shooting by that eras standards.

You can't call someone a great 3 point shooter just by one season of production, his percentage went back down to 32% in 1991. I won't even count '96 since the NBA had a short 3 point line when Magic returned.

Even when you look at his 1990 season where he was pretty good from 3, in that same postseason he shot 20% from 3.

Players were more skilled back then and they had to be because of less spacing and more physical play.

I think it is true that a lot of older players would have a much better 3pt shot today because they'd actually be practicing it. Even Lebrons jumper was trash for like half of his prime and eventually became much much better.

But on the flipside players of today would have had to improve their post, footwork, passing, and slashing skill to score and manuever around crowded paints.

Ant isn't that smart. His IQ probably isn't much higher than Ja's. He's going to occasionally say dumb stuff and you have to forgive him because he has less than average intelligence

Yes. It’s easier to pick up a set outside shot rather than developing low post and mid range moves with counters

What magic said wasn’t wrong, it just wasn’t completely relevant, as we know there have been tons of skilled guys who havnt won a championship for circumstances out of their control reasons. At the same time it is telling if a guy hasn’t won a chip at any level. So it does work both ways but it wasn’t the best example, and Magic has a track record for saying next level dumb shit so he’s not getting any benefit of the doubt.
