San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery in San Francisco on Saturday, authorities and his team said.

In a statement, the 49ers said Pearsall "sustained a bullet wound to his chest and is in serious but stable condition." Police said in an evening news conference that Pearsall was talking after being struck.

Mayor London Breed said on social media platform X that the attack took place in the Union Square community in the center of downtown. Police identified the suspect only as a 17-year-old boy.

They always tell us how this city is actually safe and much better than youd think and look at the crime stats over here...

but then celebs and athletes have this shit happen to them lol.

It would have to be a wild coincedence for it to just be those re-occuring places.

Was there another celeb shot in SF? I have no idea just asking. But you also have to keep in mind here that the majority of celebs do live in California so it's much more likely there than say Mississippi where there are no celebs.

Also an NFL draft pick who has yet to play a single game is hardly a celeb. I'm sure he could walk the streets completely unnoticed by anyone. Maybe if he were a top-5 pick or something but he wasn't.

Not that his status matters here, but from what I am reading he was headed to a signing event and on the way someone tried to steal his Rolex. He decided to wrestle the guy and got shot. Early reports though so could be completely wrong.

For those who don't know, the kid who shot him is a 17 year old who lives in Tracy, a shitty town like an 1 & half away from San Fran. Lots of petty criminals around the Bay Area go to SF to commit crime because they know SF doesn't punish criminals. This is pretty well known throughout the bay.

Your talking about petty theft. This was armed robbery and if the kid lives through his own gun shot he'll be arrested although it does look like he's be charged as a minor so not sure how that would go.

i love how idiots conflate petty theft with armed assault and attempted murder.

show me cases in SF where the courts have let off attempted murder without jail time, not due to police fcking up the case.

without even knowing anything about SF, i'm going to guess that they are lenient on shoplifters bc their jails are too crowded and their metro area is simply to densly populated for police to respond to every incident in a timely manner. similar to NYC. so no, your local sheriff being harsh on crime in your trailer park isn't comparable to one of the largest cities in the country. it's not all entirely due to politics, but your pea brains can't comprehend that so you automatically conflate shoplifting=attempted murder. i bet SF's high income makes it especially prone to theft/robbery. and their population are more likely to report crimes vs other areas.

The cost of living there is so insane that there isn't much of a middle class. It is a bunch of people living in desperation mixed with extremely wealthy residents.

The irony that they don't see is that it isn't "Dem policies" that created it. It is the result of extreme Capitalism that created it. The businesses there (Silicon Valley) did so well that it created a population of rich people who have priced out everyone else. This would be the result of any city that has extreme financial success.

yeah, that makes more sense than "newsome liberal, newsom give high five to murderers"

anytime there's a big disparity in income, there is going to be crime ridden streets. especially with the housing shortage and absurd cost of living making people unemployed, homeless and desperate to survive. that's actually pretty crazy. the dynamic is you're either rich and making 6 figures at the very minimum or 7-8 figures, or you're poor and can't afford to rent a house on your own or can't even afford to survive. yeah...i can see why there is chaos. sounds like gotham without the corruption.

San Fransisco kind of makes me sad though. I remember going there as a kid a couple of times and it was a wonderful city. As an aside I saw Barry Bonds hit his 757th home run. Was literally one day late for 756 but oh well.

But yea I went back last year for a Cali coast trip with my wife and most of it was beautiful but parts of SF legit looked like a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Kind of depressing. Union Square was popping 15 years ago but now..it is not.

You're stupid. San Juaquin County voted for Biden 57% to Trump's 41%, it's not even close. They've voted Dem in presidential elections for 20 years straight. The mayor of Tracy where this kid is from is a black woman, UC Berkeley grad ultra liberal Democrat. Stop spreading lies

How much jail time should a minor get for having a stolen gun? Or the juvenile detention anyway? For adults carrying an unregistered gun is basically legal, or that is how red states want it anyway.

If it was a minor? I'd go light. If gun was stolen and he's part of a gang? 3 months is fair for a juvie. If he's here illegally, deport both him and parents immediately. No questions asked, straight to the border and tossed over the Trump wall

it sounds like youre trying to argue that this could have happened anywhere... so tell me in the past 10 years what other NFL teams have had their first round pick shot during a robbery attempt in their home city?

anyway, no you are most definitely not supposed to cry to the state to make you safe. crying to the state for safety is why california is the way that it is, it has resulted skyrocketing crime rates while also becoming one of the most difficult states to legally protect yourself.
