Will never not be my favorite

I'll always remember my HS teacher, who was a good PG, but not a scorer. He said "You wanna know how big Iverson is?" and he'd spread his arms like look at me. It's ridiculous to imagine someone of that size could dominate at the NBA level. Absolute monster.

He was great when he drove to the hoop, but people forget he wasn't only doing that, most his shots were early shot clock midrange jumpers.

He had very bad shot selection, basically no shot IQ at all. If Iverson had even Kobe-esque shot selection, he could have been top 10 all time.

for his era he wasn’t really inefficient. especially when you account for his low turnover rate

And what else did you want him to do? Take a contested mid range or make try to make a play for Eric Snow?

He's basically a smoother version of ja Morant. But perhaps even more bone headed. On and off the court. When you read about the shit older guys did it makes today's players look soft.

Iverson had way more scoring skill. Triple threat, pull up, off ball movement are clearly superior.

They're really not remotely similar as players besides being superior athletes.

It wasn't like Iverson didn't have extreme physical gifts though.

He was like 5'11 but with a 6'6+ wingspan. Thats why his crossover and finishing package was so crazy... he could extend the ball out way further than what would be expected.

Also had world class speed and quickness. Mike Vick came from the same area and apparently Iverson was a dominant football player at QB too. Because he was uncatchable and could outrun everybody and make big hero ball hail mary throws.

It would be more advantageous to be born with Iversons athletic gifts than the 100s of stiff tall big men that have made the NBA.

No shit Sherlock. Being a tall stiff big man is a negative in terms of "athletic talent"

Look no further than the big who got drafted this year.

That's the point dummy.

People act like Allen Iverson was at such a disadvantage because of his physical size but his physical athleticism was so off the charts it made up for it and then some.

He should have passed the ball more. Should have run more pnr with tyrone hill.

It’s entirely possible AI would be the off ball movement scoring leader today outside Steph. So many spot up shooters make it hard to tell for sure but far as cooking you off the ball and emerging from behind some bigmans ass to wet the open jumper?

Steph is the only one ahead off him right now off the top of my head.

He wouldn’t be ahead of some strictly floor stretchers who wait for a drive and kick. But going to create the open shot off ball?

He was elite and would be even better today with freedom of movement.

Im gonna have to come outta retirement to cook up a 30 minute all off ball AI highlight only weirdos will care about.

One of only two undersized, low efficiency score-first guards I ever liked.

Legend. Would be slightly more effective today with a little more work on his 3, and the weak perimeter d.

Do it.

And nah tpols, like I said in the thread about wemby bein’ goat, i have ai in that second tier of all time athletes. Playing minutes like he did as a small, while shooting, is ridiculous.

Its like wemby, shaq, bron tier 1.

T2 is like Mj, ai, kemp, rodman. All those guys were super strong for their size, crazy endurance and speed. The top top are just freaks.

But still, the fact that he was that size is significant. No one else was. I think he’d be set in nfl, too.

Plus, other than mj, his skill level was higher than the other athletes. I never took ball seriously after I realized I was gonna be short, cuz I didn’t wanna play like muggsy. Ai is that dude who did it. He def does have long arms. If i had +4 or +6 wingspan loool, but yeah. He is probably more athletic than people realize. He had to be jumping close to 40 and I bet his 40 yard dash was dumb, too. Add that with the fact he could play 44 minutes, he’s a once in a lifetime athlete. Plus you see him bumping people off in that vid, too, so hia body control was on point.

He'd probably be 'a lot' more effective. All the physicality has been removed and the court is spaced out. We got a glimpse of what he could do if you take the gas off perimeter D in 2006 when he dropped 33% on 45ppg, career highs in both at the age of the 31. That would likely be an annual statline for him depending on what team he's on.
