Apparently his agent is impressed by how they treated Ben Simmons. (https://share.newsbreak.com/8pgitmnm)
“Jimmy Butler’s interest in the Brooklyn Nets is very, very real,” Windrem said, per Sports Illustrated . “Part of it is New York, part of it is that Bernie Lee, who is Ben Simmons’ agent, is very happy with how his client has been dealt with by the Nets.” Theory: he wants a max contract for 40 games a year.
He turns 35 tomorrow (happy birthday). He's averaged over 20 missed games per season in the current decade. Pat Riley doesn't want to give him the big extension he would be due for otherwise if he doesn't start playing more games. I am not going to accuse Butler of taking injuries but between Riley's attitude and this rumor I'm thinking that Butler has taken the same approach to the regular season as a lot of modern players(and teams), which is that it doesn't matter and as he continues to approach 40 resting his body should be the priority.
To that end, no franchise has been more accepting of that than the Nets with Ben Simmons.
With that said, I don't know why a rebuilding team would want to max out a 35 year-old sometimes allstar that would be a constant allstar of he could average 70 games. Butler's agent may be convinced that they're the sweetest guys in the world for being so nice to Ben Simmons while he gets paid the max to do nothing but I don't see how they aren't privately fuming. What they will be wanting going forward is young talent. They would have to pull off a coup like when they got Durant and Irving to compete for a title before Butler has to retire and I don't see how a star turns down the supermax so they can play 50 games with Butler for the Clippers of New York.
Maybe they sign him so that they can have a tradeable asset but I don't see how that's a lot better than max cap space when a team is still in their tanking phase.

this is a L for both parties
Does Jimmy not want a ring? The dudes gotten the a bag a few times already... i'd consider what a lot of ringless star players do, join a ship for a chip.

He could be the type that doesn't value a ring he gets as a sixth man or any other non-starring role.

We don't want him too old
our focus is too tank this season and to slowly build a championship team around Flagg from 2025

I think a deal is to be had to get Jimmy in NY, but with the reigning king in town: the Knicks. That's the best landing spot, honestly. You have Thibs, you have a contender, you have a fan base that has been polarizing about Randle, you have OG who can slot into the 4.
Just get it done. I think Randle helps Miami by giving them a clear front court partner for Bam, and getting Jacquez into the starting lineup rather than likely coming off the bench so long as Jimmy is in town.
For NYC, they've always been enamored with the big names even at the tail of their career. You might be able to bottle Jimmy's desperation for a new deal and get him to co-lead with Brunson deeper into the playoffs.

Butler on the knicks is too redundant. Already have Bridges Anunoby and Hart. They need a big more than anything, add Butler to that team with Thibs already not wanting to use his bench and someone will be getting wasted.

Face it n the Knicks just don't have the offense to hang with most teams. They are going to need to play 90s style ball. Grind it out defense and bring everything to a half court offense getting to the FT line so they set up the defense again.
Butler is simply better than Randle at defending and getting to the line. Randle is also one of the worst playoff performers.

Y'know Ben Simmons might not be washed, maybe Jimmy knows something we don't and this is another rebuild he likes to be a part of. But no I don't think he cares about getting a ring

Its funny because its no doubt in my mind he would somehow turn that piece of shit franchise into a top 4 team in the East. If he was trade there. Him and Chris Paul are just special in that way. Gifted. Can just make sugar out of shit.

I think what he is saying is "I like the idea of my client getting the max for playing 50 games a season. I like it a lot".

It seems they are looking to ship Randle out but him Bridges and Brunson are all guys that can average over 20. They most likely won't have three 20ppg scorers but as they are now offense shouldn't be the problem. Instead the problem is size, they have one big in Mitchell Robinson and he misses a lot of games. You don't fix that by adding a wing who is going to miss a lot of games.

Yes, the Knicks need to fix the Center position, but Randle is 6-9 (6-7 ¾ without shoes) and isn't solving their Center problems either. Bridges played the 4 in Phoenix, OG sometimes in Toronto, Hart plenty of 4 with the Knicks. The PF spot isn't the issue.
I genuinely think you're inserting your own self preservation mindset in here. The Knicks adding Jimmy a Celtic killer is a concern to you personally.

So is my personal bias also why I don't think he should go to Brooklyn? That's a stupid "point." There's zero chance the knicks are handing the max to another wing. I'm just expressing an opinion. Randle isn't a real center but he's a lot more likely to fill in they're than Butler. They have one known quantity at the five and Mitchell Robinson only played 30 or so games. If and when randle is traded he will be traded to address the Center spot not for extremely redundant wing depth. I would love to see a Knicks team silly enough to have Mikal Bridges protecting the rim but it's not going to happen.

The... exact same thing can be said about the Boston Celtics. Where Porzingis is their starting center and missed starting 95% of playoff games.
Quite a hypocritical take, I must say myself. :lol What do you think lad?

For my statement to be hypocritical I would have to be acting like the Celtics are deep at Center. I do not. They're in better shape than the Knicks but I have on more than one occasion said that a bruising scoring center would be the Celtics biggest weakness.
So what do I think?
I think you're an idiot.
Quit obsessing over me and go be a jackass to someone else.

He'd be gone in less than 2 seasons just like Kyrie, KD and Harden.
But hey Brooklyn, why not.
