Kenny Smith and many others are now blatantly saying that players in previous eras were better specifically because every basketball shot comes down to the last 2 dribbles and then finish - everything else before that is just Harlem Globetrotters and doesn't represent "skill"... When a player dances with the ball before making a move - this is not "skill" and actually reduces winning (not 5-man basketball).. Furthermore, Derek Fisher recently pointed out that today's game is like WWE in that the rules have produced great entertainment but weak basketball and competitiveness.

Previous eras were better at 2-point shot-making (post, mid-range, long 2), 5-man basketball, chemistry, all-round game, fundamentals on all areas, rebounding, shot-blocking, passing and quick instinct (threading needles in no-spacing).. Btw, it was already revealed in another thread (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?518390-Clear-cut-proof-of-wide-conspiracy-to-deflate-player-weight-of-previous-eras) that the basketball reference website understates the weights of previous eras significantly.

I think each former player usually says their era is the best. They just don't say it all the time, just when someone makes a comment that sparks these type of discussions, like Anthony Edwards' quote.

This is the type of BS that I'm talking about

You just made up a fake story to protect Ant - when did a prominent player from the 80's or 90's say a previous era couldn't play?? I never heard Bird or Jordan say that previous eras were bums.. Only Ant and today's players say that

And you know WHY Anthony Edwards said that??? It's because players in previous eras PEDESTAL today's players and era - they're always AGREEING with the Cowherd and Nick Wright that today's era is more athletic and skilled, so now Ant starts treating prior eras like crap

Well, Dennis Rodman, for example, said that today's players wouldn't be able to deal with the physicality of the 80s. And there are other players on record saying that.

By the way, I don't like todays players, I don't like how they approach the game with load-management and all that crap, how they are shooting threes all the time, etc. The 80s, 90s and 2000s are my favorite eras of basketball. And Anthony Edwards is a jerk.

Yes a far cry from saying no one can play in today's era except Curry, which is actually closer to the truth than saying the only guy that could play back then was MJ.

Today's players have a PNR spamming skillset - that's their game, so when they encounter a superior brand of ball, they lose the attrition battle - they no longer apply more pressure than they face - i.e. in comparison to the zippy ball movement of the opponent, ball-dominators like Lebron let the defense rest, so they have more capacity for offense as the series wears on... The story for 21 years has been opponents with a good brand of ball movement getting "hot" and upsetting, sweeping or blowing Lebron away by record amount, aka Nuggets, Spurs, Warriors, Mavs, Magic - multiple times for some - it's a fantastic record of losing, which shouldn't be a surprise for a crap brand of ball (high-scoring ball-dominance, aka high-scoring point guard play).
