Why do you like to watch tall men throw a ball into a hoop for 48 minutes?

Seeing tall, muscular, sweaty men run up and down the court and bump and tug at each other for position excites me. I'm not familiar with the game itself or its rules to be honest.

Because I like to PLAY and played against a lot of these guys
I was initially drawn to the sport because I thought it was a tough sport - not tough like football, but still tough.. That's now gone - I would never be drawn to today's soft, creampuff format for softies and non-competitors

I don't think any other sport is as mentally and physically challenging.
I was a player first. I fell in love with playing ball, but watching people play was enlightening. I found it most interesting to watch people who were unlike me, like Shaq. Watching people post up and the whole physics of it was fascinating to me. I also like watching people play defense or try to break down their man, but there is something about ball that seems to be the perfect amount of physicality.
The only downside is that basketball is a vertical game, but it is still super interesting. It sucks for vertically challenged people, tho, ahem.

The beauty and perfection of a perfect swish is addicting. When I was a little kid, I was obsessed with baseball. The feeling when you're batting and you perfectly connect with the ball for a home run is similar. But in baseball it doesn't even happen every game. In basketball, you get that feeling over and over - especially when you get the hot hand. Basketball took over baseball for me.
The other thing I like about basketball is that it's a great blend of team and individual competition. Obviously, it's a team sport, but there's also the aspect of you against the guy you're defending and vice versa when you're being defended.
