I only noticed because it came up next to Thursday night football on Amazon prime. I don’t remember connecting the two but my league pass and NBA TV always come up on Amazon prime. Decided this will be a better use of the next hour than the Cowboys and giants.

We Talked about the change in the All-Star game and I know it isn’t worth a whole discussion but it is immediately noticeable that this is just a basketball game. Nothing going on the first few minutes looks like anything but a basketball game both teams want to win.

Hard closeout. People fighting over screens. Stockton is trying to get it to Barkley, but Pippen is denying him in the post. Malone couldn’t get free on the other side of the court with Larry Johnson all over him. They actually had a shot clock violation.

Stockton threw a 40 foot lob to Drexler and people are looking around, trying to figure out who was supposed to pick him up in transition.

Malone running on the break like it’s the playoffs. The east called a timeout to talk about it.

soon as it came back out, they tried to run the floor again, but Jordan beat Malone down the floor and broke up the long pass, then ran down the other way and caught a lob.

Pippen and Jordan getting back hard stopping transition baskets.

Ewing getting doubled in the post kicking out to Isaiah.

Shaq Just put a solid foul on Karl Malone going in for a layup.

I just wish I could get some of the young fans who excuse modern All-Star games by saying it doesn’t matter and who would want to risk getting hurt to see these games.

With the talent we have now we would have an incredible product if the players cared this much. Not like anyone is getting beat up out here. It’s just two teams trying to win a game and the flashy plays are just a product of having ridiculous talent everywhere. They're actually making adjustments, running plays, and holding teammates accountable for not playing defense.

Is just a pickup game with fans in attendance. We really didn’t know how well we had it at the time.

Malone out here throwing elbows on the rebound because Shaq bullied him out of the last one. Isiah finding Jordan on every cut even while the commentators talk about them not getting along. Isiah just found him for a little bullshit skyhook.

Jordan just broke up his third fast break attempt. Someone threw a lob to Sean Elliott and Jordan intercepted it. Seems Riley got on their ass about the transition D and Jordan and Pippen have stopped it themselves.

Dominique doubled on the catch by Sean Elliott and Danny Manning.

Dumars gunning out here.

I'll watch Cowboys Giants. But only because I'm currently visiting family who pay for all these packages.

I wont entertain such arrangements in my own home!

I switched to it for a minute and realize it hasn’t even started. Network love, nothing more than half an hour of filler. I don’t know why Amazon needs to do that when they don’t even have ads.

Back to 1993 for me.

Before the break, the fans were booing the west for bullshitting a little bit and missing a couple easy ones trying to be flashy and they had to go back to running plays and playing basketball.

Maybe it’s our fault the players don’t care anymore. We let it happen. These fans want a basketball game and the players are giving it to them.

Shawn Kemp just made a business decision not contesting Shaq on a dunk. I was probably disgusted the first time I watched this but with my modern sensibilities I understand.

And as I typed that Shaq hit the trademark black tornado spin into a lob, and Isiah got it to him but Kemp and David Robinson both fouled him in the air to stop the dunk. Perhaps Shawn was ashamed he conceded the last one.

Barkley put Shaq on his ass going up for a dunk and walked off ignoring him looking up for help. I don’t think there will be any more uncontested dunks inside.

Terry Porter Just said “**** outta here son. Bringing that weak shit in here….” to Larry Johnson who he fouled trying to get a soft layup. Among the most 90s things I’ve heard in years.

And Tim Hardaway just speared Isiah Thomas. They seem to have something personal going on.

Could not remember what year Karl Malone reminded everyone why they hate Karl Malone at the end of the game.

Looked it up and that was 1991. I have nothing else to contribute. :lol

Hakeem blocked someone I forgot then they went down the other way, and Karl Malone got stripped. They come back down the other way and there is nearly another shot clock violation, but Jordan got a shot off that Dan Majerle blocked. Two plays later Shaq gets his dunk blocked by Malone. Pippen just broke up another attempted full court pass and got it to Larry Johnson who got taken out trying to dunk on Karl.

Magic is calling the game and is talking about how the crowd has been taken out of it by the defense taking away so many great plays.

They have to be rolling in their graves watching shit like this

Better basketball players.

Period.

Better basketball instinct because they played in a more sophisticated format and weren't raised in today's PNR spam offense, open paint and wide open spacing that yield basic hoops instinct and IQ - today's game is simplified to 3-and-D and dunker spot - beginner-level terms so the media and fans can understand - it's a dumbed-down game that's for entertainment - Derek Fisher called it WWE - the team-ups, soft rules and load management - all for entertainment as opposed to quality basketball that can dominate international comp and the entire world, as our physical talent advantage dictates we should

They actually called a travel on Ewing making a move in the post on a key possession.

Im somehow Excited watching this down the stretch. I remember who wins because I know Stockton and Malone shared the MVP and I assume they didn’t give it to the losers but I don’t remember how it happened.

I don’t know how Tim Hardaway ended up taking the shot for the game with this lineup out here. Missed a wild double pump floating jumper and got the putback tipped away.

Overtime.

Barkley backed Patrick Ewing down for every bit of nine seconds, and then Shaq and Pippen both came over together and all three of them fouled him on the shot. He looked pissed. Came down next play and got a wing three off a Stockton drive and knocked it down.

Next game is game three of the 97 finals. I think this is the game Malone went off and actually gave Jazz fans hope. I might actually watch it just because I know how the series ended and I may get a laugh out of the false hope they have.

I turned the game on and the first thing I hear is Bill Walton saying this game would be about testicles and endurance. I do miss Bill.

I think Mikes first three shots have all been elbow threes and Pippen just hit one as well. I feel like I’m gonna be annoyed by a long cold stretch soon because I know Utah wins this game.

Ostertegs foul on Pippen under the basket would definitely be reviewed for a flagrant right now, but Scottie made no effort to sell it. I’m gonna be so annoyed watching modern ball if I keep watching all these games.

I miss the old all star games that were actually competitive.

At least the NBA went back to East vs West this year. That's a start. But I don't know how you make the players care about it if they don't want to play competitive ball.

Idea I got was that they set out to play a more serious game. It could be because the last one basically turned into a magic Johnson appreciation thing, and they were playing around at the end. But that was understandable because back then we all expected magic to die soon. Stern was mentioned as being in attendance and wanting a real game that year. They probably actually cared what stern thought unlike silver.

There needs to be some kind of incentive, because apparently pride isn't incentive enough.

All of them being all stars, they're making plenty of money, so a monetary prize wouldn't do it.....

I don't know. There must be some way.

The all-star game wasn't as competitive as a regular game, but the players took enough pride in wanting to establish on some level who the best of the best was. The current game is a lay up line and 3 point chuckfest. Well I guess not unlike a regular game in 2024 except the dial is turned up to 11.

Pretty good for Clyde. I would have imagined someone like Ewing or Robinson would be above him in 93.

All it takes is one player to go hard. Everyone would follow lead.

Kobe was probably the last guy IIRC to push that kind of competitiveness.

You need a bold personality to break the mold of everyone just hanging out and taking it easy. Step up and set a new tone. Seems like a lot of guys don’t have that audacity anymore.

Someone like Steph or LeBron need to bring it to the media.
My guys are gonna go hard, of the other team doesn't then thats on them.
