View Full Version : Why is Lebron so bad at making the Finals?

He has 11 losses before the Finals, which is more than Kareem, Russell, MJ, Magic, Curry, Bird, and the most among any so-called "goat" candidate.
And if we just look at the West, he's 1 for 5 in making the Finals so far, and everyone avoids the elephant in the room of "Is Lebron capable of developing a Western Finals team without being gifted a ready-made MVP-level player that was better on both sides of the ball?".
Since AD's bubble, Lebron has lost catastrophically every single year, which includes missing play-in's or losing 4 straight 4th quarters leads to get swept 4-0 and become Jokic's yearly ragdoll.
Lebron was lottery with the East all-star center in 2005 and lost as a -700 favorite with an all-star in 09'.. Then he was lottery during his prime in 2019 with Ingram/Kuzma/Rondo and more.. He lost before the Finals in every way imaginable and by every margin.. The first time that he had a low seed in the playoffs, he promptly lost in the 1st Round twice (21', 24').

LeBron 10 finals in 21 years = 48%
MJ 6 finals in 15 years = 40%

I genuinely believe 3ball could’ve copied and pasted the wikipedia page on the history of socks and spursm8 would've still given that same exact reply.

I got a chuckle out of that. Yolk really has been abusing him. It's borderline elder àbuse.

What about Kobe? How many times did he miss the finals?
Why did LeBron win at age 35 but Kobe couldn't win with peak Dwight at age 34?

LeBron is in a bit of a bind here. He wants to keep accumulating somewhat empty regular season stats but in the process he’s exposing his “he makes it to Finals so much!” narrative at the same time.

Lebron's inferior skillset requires twice as much help but still produces a small fraction of the winning frequency and the worst winning frequency of nearly any top 10 candidate.
Specifically, Lebron's skillset is high-scoring point guard play, aka "ball-domination", and this skillset imposes spot-up roles/reduces everyone's assists, so the TEAM has low assists, weak brand of ball and a lottery record on the championship level (22-33)..
Ultimately, the "ball-dominator" skillset produces weak chemistry and therefore underachieves favored talent, such as losing 7 times with the preseason favorite or homecourt.

c definition of ball hog ---
or look at Kobes' career
:yaohappy::yaohappy::yaohappy:
How can you be a ball-hog when teammates are passing you the ball so you can score?
Kobe was assisted on nearly 50% of his field goals, compared to only 30% for Lebron, so Lebron is the one that is scoring on his own and ball-hogging (unassisted scores)..
When Kobe scores a lot, teammates are still involved and assisting him, and the ball is moving... Otoh, when Lebron scores a lot, he's completely dominating the ball and the ball isn't moving, while teammates are standing around watching - not involved..
So it's night and day - lebron's high scoring point guard skillset, aka "ball-dominator" is a ball-hogging style that scores on it's own without teammates assisting or being involved.

I think it’s clear that Bron has had much tougher competition, compared to the weakest NBA era that Jordan won during.

Why did LeBron win at age 35 but Kobe couldn't win with peak Dwight at age 34?
Why did Kobe win 3 titles with Shaq and Lebron only got to round 2 with Shaq?
I think it’s clear that Bron has had much tougher competition, compared to the weakest NBA era that Jordan won during.
