I hope not, for his sake. Offensively he's a terrible fit with Brunson. Brunson wants a sidekick that his own shots and doesn't need the ball in his hands. Smart is a subpar shooter that needs the ball in his hands in a point guard role to have an effect on the game beyond hurting spacing. He's actually in a similar player mood to Brunson.. just not as good or anywhere near as good at the various skills involved with putting the ball in the hole. I don't see how he fits and he might even end up as Brunson's back up.

Because of what he does on defense I am sure he's Thibs kind of guy which might be where all of this is coming from.

Curious as to who they would be trading for him. My guess is Josh Hart. I don't think that would be a good trade for the knicks but I don't see how the whole thing works in general.

Interesting. The consensus amongst Knicks fans is that the bench did get weaker with the loss of DiVo, so someone like Smart actually does make some sense at least from a defensive standpoint. DiVo was a great defender, but a much better offensive threat than what Smart is. He is taller and stronger than Deuce McBride, so I think it's an upgrade. But then what are you doing with Cam Payne then?? Unless you're moving Smart into the starting SG role and moving Hart to the bench which I think is the smarter play. So you have a backup of:

PG - Payne/Deuce/Kolek
SG - Hart/Deuce/Shamet
SF - Hart/Dadiet/Toppin
PF - Achiuwa/Sims
C - Robinson/Sims/Achiuwa

Because of who Smart is defensively, he feels like a perfect backup for all three of OG, Hart, and Bridges. He allows you to sub for any of them, shuffle who's on who, and maintain a similar defensive identity. Plus he can be used on ball, he's a streaky shooter, and he's been through the big moments. It makes a lot of sense to me. They do need to help the bench. I have no idea what Smart would go for though.
