I’m sure he’s been in the lab perfecting that pass fake stepback for some time.

Sometimes it feels like the defender doesn't matter on these long threes. It's all just about the shooter and their mechanics on that one play.

When did this just not become automatic travels?

My feeling on violations is, anything ugly is immediately illegal.

Giannis "Gather step" 3 step stampedes into the lane, any times a guy chops his feet like in that gif before the shot. Whether it's on the catch or not.

Even Lamelo's shot is just a blatant travel imo. Picking the ball up and hustling to a spot to shoot from. Awful for the sport.

When the NBA decided it wasn’t and lower levels emulated it even without formal rule changes.

People playing casually will always follow the nba lead. Unless you wanna call an nba rule that makes it harder to score not easier. They will swear the nba interpretation of traveling should apply. But don’t try to call a 5 second back down.

Only rules that they take from the nba are the ones that make it easier.

Referencing bag culture... saw this on YouTube and it's pretty crazy.

If you thought athletes are scamming the system think again. That's crazy.

Not sure how to imbed a YouTube short but Kuzma does this all the time. It used to be considered an obvious travel.

You can’t embed a short for whatever reason.

And yeah, you used to see that called a bit with people like Dominique, who were prone to do a little extra fake or two. I’ve always been more forgiving of those plays though. They are traveling, but I think I’m big man and post play in general biased because I never had handles.

I have no idea what that means :lol but thanks. So in your video, the code is 'ChH3mbJejVSVOlyT' it's after the '='. In order to imbed it we have to get rid of the 'shorts' part of it so if you open any random youtube video it will say 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=' and after the '=' you just paste your code.

There's probably an easier way out there but I'm not that techy.

I know it cuts off early, but the ref did not call that a travel. He let him do a step back, look down at his feet to see he didn’t step far enough and then shuffle them both to get behind the line. It wouldn’t be so bad if the ref weren’t obviously staring right at his feet trying to determine if the shot would be a 3. That’s the one you call just to keep everybody honest. Just to throw criticism off a little bit. I doubt he would’ve even complained. You just laugh about it and move on.

I was just getting ready to mention Mitchell. He's doesn't have an elite bag, but I do think his bag is greatly underrated.

I saw a video where a reporter asked Donovan about fans saying he and Garland are the best bag-court in history. He brought up Harden and Kyrie then Kyrie and Luka…

Its a reasonable conversation I suppose if we throw out that modern “bags” are full of largely illegal tactics.

Putting that aside?

Theyre in the discussion.

Reading this thread it seems that some people just never got the memo about the gather step. It had to be codified imo because they had been allowing it sometimes and not other times for decades. They had to make it consistent. But then it opened the door to all kinds of moves because what exactly is a gather? If I can take as many steps as I like between dribbles who's to say how many I can take on my last dribble?

I feel like I’m owed so many back layups if they’re not only allowing but celebrating this….

once you remove the obstacle of having to dribble athletic people are too mobile to keep from getting around you going full speed When you can’t just tackle them like football allows.

I remember when Harden came into the league he was noted for having old man game and a traditional 2 guard skillset coming off ball for midrange jumpers.

Then somehow he became one of the leading expositors of the ball dominant "pull-up from 30 or travel into the lane and flop" trend at the behest of Nike DAntoni (the coach not the poster).

And the rest is history.

At some point they will have reel this shit in. The Pritchard play was disgusting and so was Harden's euro shuffles.

Behind the back dribbles can be done legally though, I think. As someone who practiced the hell out of them as a kid. But I typically only trust a guy like Kyrie to really slam the ball and do it legally. It has to be a fast motion pushing the ball instead of caressing it.
