The best use of preseason games

What would you say the best uses of preseason games are?

Some possibilities, in no particular order:

- simply for the fun of watching basketball

- to see what possible starting lineups for the regular season might be

- to see which stars look healthy and fit

- to see what the rotations might look like

Every team has some new players, and the preseason should be to get them to gel as a team and used to playing with each other before the regular season starts. Everything else is a distant second.

I have always thought preseason is useful to give the second unit more playing time than in the regular season, and see how these players perform when given big minutes.

With practices they are trying to see best chemistry for towel boys and rotation players in the line ups.
