It is down to CAT 4 now but it will still cause a lot of damages wherever it goes through.
It will hit Tampa area tonight. Stay safe, ISHiots living within Milton's path.

As someone who has experienced a CAT 1, I can't imagine a Cat III or even a II. My home was rocking quite a bit... then again it's built on pilings so it's expected. When I lived in St. Pete/Pinelles county most of the homes were luckily stucco... atleast they have that going for them. Good luck down there!

The Waffle House to the rescue!

https://itsnotgov.org/emergency-services/disaster-relief/waffle-house-hurricane-response/
The Waffle House is a restaurant based in Georgia (https://www.today.com/food/waffle-houses-carolinas-close-amid-hurricane-florence-t137462) which has been recognized by (https://www.fema.gov/blog/2011-07-07/news-day-what-do-waffle-houses-have-do-risk-management) the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA (https://www.fema.gov/)) for its exceptional preparedness during hurricanes, ready to serve customers and first responders (https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/nation-now/2018/09/13/hurricane-florence-waffle-house-index-fema/1287881002/). Their preparedness is effective and reliable enough that they are (along with a few other companies (https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/fema-waffle-house-index/)) used by FEMA as an informal metric called the Waffle House Index (https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/nation-now/2018/09/13/hurricane-florence-waffle-house-index-fema/1287881002/) to determine how badly a storm has affected a given area.
Because of its level of preparedness, Waffle House is able to provide a place (https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/08/29/547079242/keep-it-simple-and-stay-open-the-waffle-house-storm-menu) for residents to charge their phones and provide food to first responders (https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/nation-now/2018/09/13/hurricane-florence-waffle-house-index-fema/1287881002/) in the aftermath of a storm.
Waffle House supports its locations by monitoring storms at the Waffle House Storm Center (https://twitter.com/WaffleHouseNews/status/1039606662234075137). Waffle House locations are able to operate on gas alone (https://finance.yahoo.com/news/waffle-houses-hurricane-response-team-prepares-disaster-184844452.html), though they sometimes bring in electric generators (https://finance.yahoo.com/news/waffle-houses-hurricane-response-team-prepares-disaster-184844452.html). The company also mobilizes "jump teams" (https://finance.yahoo.com/news/waffle-houses-hurricane-response-team-prepares-disaster-184844452.html): people who come from other parts of the United States to cover for employees who are unable to report to work because of the storm. Finally, they prepare to reduce to a limited menu (https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/08/29/547079242/keep-it-simple-and-stay-open-the-waffle-house-storm-menu) under circumstances in which some of their supplies are difficult to obtain.

The previous hurricane must be quite bad there, eh?

Survived Andrew and that’s back when homes in Florida were made of paper. If there is any state that’s prepared for hurricanes, it’s Florida.

It was catastrophic in the mountains. It'll take years to recover.

Hardly. Didn't like 200,000 people lose their homes?

Yeah it was complete devastation. I lived north of Homestead which looked like an atom bomb was detonated when you looked at the destruction. I remember reading reports of wind gusts of 220mph being reported. That was a Cat 5 that hit us head on.
