View Full Version : The Warriors...they're baack

This version of the Warriors is already giving indications that something is brewing but all the signs are being ignored by everyone. They went 6-0 in the preseason. They set a franchise record for number of threes made in one of those preseason games. They crushed the G-League Lakers practice team by 58 without playing Curry. In their first game against the Trail Blazers they handily won by 35 which is the largest margin for the franchise for a season's opening game. Curry sat the 4th quarter.

Is this the advance rumblings of a season of scary hours for the league?

No…

Portland is one of, if not THE, worst teams in the league.

They can win more games than expected perhaps but “scary hour”? The talent simply isn’t there.

I am very excited to see what Steph and company can cook up this year. Steph/Dray are older, no Klay, let's see what happens.

Curry very much has room to grow his legacy.

He only played 25 minutes and had 17/10/9, almost a triple double. I think that qualifies as a good game.

Depends on what the definition of "back" is but they are clearly underrated and going to be a very good team. They are loaded with quality NBA talent from top to bottom. They are one of the lowkey deepest teams in the league. They have like six guys that can drop 20-25 on any given night. Starter quality players like Moody hardly even see the floor. Hield is going to be raining 3s with Curry all season long.

I'm pretty sure the Warriors are going to be better than last year now that they finally got rid of dead weight Klay Thompson. They'll be a playoff team....but it's going to be a STEEP climb to get to the finals. The West is top heavy. I have a hard time seeing them get past OKC, Minny, or the Lakers.

This. I'm getting 2021-22 vibes. The Warriors run a proven system that often creates a greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts effect. They're deep and they play together. Definitely a team to keep an eye on.

Talent is essential but chemistry and continuity are underrated.

I think the Warriors will be fine barring any major injury. Kuminga just needs to keep progressing like he did last season and Heild needs to do what he does like he did in the last game. He's not going to take Thompson's spot defensively, but he's just as good of a shooter as Klay and has made the second most threes in the NBA the last several seasons only behind Curry.

Luckily, all the splash bros fans can enjoy watching Klay on a deep playoff run and possible 5th chip.

I saw Luka was 2nd in made 3’s behind Curry several times last season.
Did Hield finish strong and drop Luka down to 3rd place at season’s end ?

I said last several seasons. I didn't specify last season.

2023-24: 4th (268)
2022-23: 2nd (288)
2021-22: 2nd (262)
2020-21: 2nd (282)
2019-20: 2nd (271)
2018-19: 4th (278)

He's probably the most consistent Top 5 three point shooter the last 6 seasons when it comes to making threes and staying healthy enough to make those trees.

I don’t think I’ve watched a regular season game where a team consistently pressured the ball like the warriors did last night. There really is something to playing 12 guys. Everyone seemed fresh.

Still not enough talent to win 7 against an OKC or Boston, who can do the same thing defensively when they need to. But very impressive nonetheless.

Definitely a good team. I don't think they could get away with that kind of double on Tatum if JB was out there to help punish them for it but they have some good players and Steph Curry is always dangerous.

Reasons it may be hype:
* Warriors 6-1 record- wins all against teams w/.500 record or below
* Warriors 7th win against Celtics was without Jaylen Brown
* Warriors wasted all year not finding anyone who can in any way slow down Embiid, Jokic, Giannis.

Reasons it may be real:
* Could Buddy Hield be a better fit? This guy has 69% Total Shooting?! Unreal.
* Kuminga is coming into his own offensively and on individual D.

Does that matter? Two of those guys aren't making the NBA finals and Denver has too much perimeter defense issues if they meet up IMO. I disagree about JK. To me, he's a lazy defender and below average which is a shame for his amazing physical qualities.

Reasons it might be real:

#1 net rating
#3 off rating
#2 def rating :applause:

Defense being key. When Warriors have a top 5 defense, they're usual a chip contender. On top of that, my belief is Melton is the x factor on this team. Him being a starter SG is exactly what the Warriors need, elite 3&D player. Unfortunate that he's so injury prone, but he'll get that 22' Otto treatment. Bubble rap until the playoffs. I do expect the off rating to fall off by the end of the season, nobody thinks Buddy is going to average 20 on 70% TS.

And they're gone again. For now.

Kerr messed with the winning lineup they had due to his hang-up with players who are not fundamentally sound- Hield and Kuminga. It is true- they are not sound/high IQ players. But you can still have a tremendous output. He tinkered too much, lost confidence of those two, and created uncertainty and chaos.

Hopefully he won't overthink things and go back to what worked. Curry, Hield, Wiggins, Kuminga, Draymond.

Curry deserves to play with more than 1 superstar in his long career. Not everybody can win with Wiggins as 2nd option. Outside Durant an old Jimmy Butler is the only thing that comes close. We all know the players you root for have played with more help and still do to this very day, ironically enough.

Klay was 3rd with most 3pm in 2013. Then 2014-2017 was runner-up to Curry for most 3pm. Then led the league in 2023 in 3pm.

Draymond considered one the best defensive players ever with a DPOY in 2017, runner-up 3x and 8x All Defensive. Plus Iggy with his many 6moy awards and coming off the bench to win FMVP in 2015.

Steph's teammates didn't have to have a superstar label to show how great they were during his prime.

Klay isn't even close to as good a player as Jimmy Butler is. Not even close. He shit the bed in both Finals before KD came over and shit the bed in 2022 Finals as well which forced Wiggins to step up. Klay is all or nothing. If his 3 is off... he's Michael Porter Jr level impact. Butlers bag is much deeper than that scoring and passing and dribbling... everything.

And Dray has the defense of butler with none of the offense. There's a Mariana trench level gap between Dray and Butlers offensive abilities.

It makes sense, Steph is more deserving of a third MVP than Jokic was. Giving Steph an MVP shifts the math a bit so the last 10 seasons we've had 3 MVP's with 3 Titles. Neither player actually won the title with the MVP. If people aren't confident in SGA making either the conference or NBA finals.

I brought it up not even thinking about if he "deserves" it this year, although upon looking Steph is 7th in EPM, but just in general if this is a unique phenomenon with Steph. Does LeBron get MVP chants on opponent home courts? Do Jokic and Shai?

Yes. Jokic deserves multiple MVPs but it looks odd and out of place and tells the story of these years wrong that he's gotten so many. If MVPs are narrative awards they're failing in telling the reality of these past 5 years or decade actually.
