Looks like he got a little higher than Dwight Howard's backboard sticker dunk from 2007. Although Dwight actually dunked a ball while placing a sticker.

Impressive. Obi is 6'9" with a 7'2" wingspan and no neck. Got that Shawn Marion head and shoulders thing going on. Shoulder height is probably more like that of a 6'10" guy. Standing reach is probably in the 9'0" to 9'4" range. Vertical is probably 38" at worst.

Not sure if this applies, but I remember playing against a guy years ago at a court at an L.A. Fitness and this kid must have been 5'7" or 5'8" and I'm 5'10", and this kid was skin and bones. His legs were like pencils. But this kid was doing windmill dunks on all of us all game. Even during a dead ball, he would show off by jumping straight up from under the rim and hanging on to the rim. None of us could believe it. It's all about your muscle fibers I suppose and weight. Toppin is a skinny guy. His metabolism is higher than most in the NBA most likely and with his skinny frame, he's probably able to elevate himself with ease. I played football all throughout high school and college and I made it a point to build up big calves thinking that the more muscle I had down there, the higher I would be able to jump. Couldn't be further from the truth. It's the dudes with the pencil legs that have the ability to jump the highest.

For real. Most impressive shit I've seen from a physical standpoint ever.

Sounds like my cousin Jermaine. He was about 5’7” but he hit a crazy put back dunk over me once and I didn’t even see him coming. He didn’t even attempt to really play basketball. He was just a freak. I don’t even know how he got that athletic because I never really saw him play sports or work out. But he was a little tank. He didn’t do fancy dunks because back then we hadn’t seen so many crazy things to emulate, but I’m sure he would’ve been doing Nate Robinson shit if Nate had been around to show us he should try it.

And Obi did did that so casually it makes me wonder why people had such a problem years ago on here when someone posted a claim from Wilt saying he could do it. Kareem in the same article said he couldn’t quite get to the top of the backboard but he knew Wilt could.

It's much easier to jump when you're skin and bones. It's some ja Morant type physics. I used to be able to dunk at 160 but at over 200 I'm not even close.
And I can touch net flat footed with my hands over my head. So that means my vertical is straight poverty.

I knew a few cats like that, around that height. Never took sports seriously, never played high school ball. But they'd come through everyone once in a while on the playground and show up, show out.

Truth.
I was already dunking in 8th grade at 6’0” 155, with 3rd world ankles.
Still have skinny ankles and overall slim legs, at 6’4.5” and 225, and can still get up.
Had a HS SF teammate who was 6’7” and 175, legs looked like they’d break every step. Dude could run the court like a gazelle and get damn near elbow to the rim first thing in the morning, no stretching or warm up.

The skinny-legged guys who can jump high have long, very elastic tendons. The legs are relatively long, especially the distal (lower leg) segment. The length of the tibia/fibular versus the femur is known as the crural index. A high crural index (longer lower leg) is mechanically advantageous for jumping. It's why kangaroos are built like this:

It also creates more surface area relative to body mass. So there's less body fat stored there. People with bigger-looking calves often have shorter lower legs and store more fat there. East and South-East Asians are good examples of this.

This was low-key one of the craziest things Ive ever seen in the NBA. Completely unimportant moment in the game, but an absurd display of athleticism in a very non-chalant way.

Dwight also had a running start. Obi took one step.

It's not that impressive at all. Lots of guys can do this who aren't even in the NBA. I've seen high school kids almost get the top of the board. Notice how none of the players even reacted to it. Because it's not a big deal to them. Plenty of vids on youtube of guys not in the NBA doing similar or better. Just more stupid hyping of modern players.

This. Grabbing the top of the board is a part of my morning routine. Players not doing this every day proves the league is soft now
