No matter how many times I watch it. I know the new rule. I’m not saying the ref should call it the way I would have called it years ago. I’m not criticizing the young guys. It’s fine. But I cannot turn off my internal reaction.
has to be 20,000 of them by now and my mind will not adjust. The double negative is absolutely required here.
I can’t….NOT see those plays through the lens of an old fan.
And I genuinely don’t understand why I’ve not adjusted internally. Barring something unfortunate I should live for quite a while longer. 30 years from now am I gonna be the decrepit old man in a corner who sees that play and has to stifle the natural reaction to be upset about it?
I know I’m not the only one. The argument is the same in the comment section of every video of a modern NBA highlight.
I just don’t know why. Every other rule change I eventually stop seeing the broken previous rule or I stop noticing when it is called in the new way. I know that defenders used to hold Reggie and Michael Jordan off the ball in such a way that would be called a foul today. But when I see the Freedom of movement calls? It doesn’t immediately feel like a bad call to me.
I just know that’s the way they call it now and I stop noticing.
When a guy extends his hand into someone’s back and they call it I barely notice it anymore. They don’t let you do that now so my mind has stopped being perplexed. It’s just…normal to see that called.
why is this different? What about that cloud going by makes me wanna shake my fist at it so fervently when I step outside in my house shoes to admire my lawn?
On this one issue, I am definitely an old man angry at a cloud, but I look around me and see a lot of younger men angry at it too. So I feel like it can’t be that simple.
Has it clicked for you? Does it no longer stand out in your head and in your heart that you shouldn’t be taking three steps?
For the life of me, I can’t stop noticing it every single time And I would really like to. If you no longer even notice…what’s your secret? Is it just being 24?
Is it really that simple? The people I used to think of as young fans are 30 now so even they notice. I’m not often talking to 16-year-olds about basketball so maybe it really is that simple. They don’t notice it at all. Do they?
Does everyone over 30 simply have to age out of the discussion? Or have some of you completely stopped having the internal “!!!!!!!” reaction in your chest that haunts me?
