barkley has more talent in his pinky than gianna will ever have, but this league rewards idiots like gianna that initiate contact

The could both Give you a pretty hard to contend with 30 these days if you ask for it and play up tempo. Barkley would probably also lead the league in rebounds if he set out to do it. But the defensive edge is pretty significant having fewer natural interior players Barkley could use his strength to slow, even if he didn’t put in his full effort.

Honestly, Charles would be a lot better than Giannis when he played Largely because of how the league was set up to keep you from just rampaging into the paint and they didn’t reward drawing as much. But for similar reasons, Barkley could well be worse today.

As is usually the case, both of them were pretty specialized for the kind of league they played in. Barkley would be better this season than Giannis would be in 1990 though. Just the number of points that will be taken away by him having to adjust to stricter ball handling rules would be wild. Barkley having to avoid backing down for eight seconds and committing so many fouls that would be called a flagrant today would also be an adjustment but less so.

to put it simply if you could trade through time, I don’t think either side would do it.

Bucks' start has me questioning how I view basketball. I legit don't get how a guy can do what Giannis can do on both ends of the court can have such a poor record with any kind of competence around him.

Well they’re on pace for 11 wins and we all know that isn’t happening so it’s probably best ignored for a good while.

Giannis and it's not even close...I love Barkley but he's an outlier who's game might not even translate to todays game. Giannis you can build a winning team around him with role players

I find it surprisingly hard to even suggest a good comparison for Barkley today.

Stout, athletic, undersized (by height) forward who can score from all three levels.

I mean Tatum plays the four currently, you could argue hes similar to Chuck in some regards altho hes a twig by comparison (and a better defender nonetheless).

It feels like Chuck could do a lot of damage in todays game, Id have expected at least a few more guys of his prototype, even if they arent superstars. Cant really think of any tho.

Giannis' game simply doesnt suit the modern NBA, at all. It's why he and his teams are consistently not getting results despite what an athletic freak he is.

Whereas Barkley's game is more suited to now that it was even back then.

not getting results relative to who? Only one person has more playoff success since he became a star.

Giannis has the defense obviously, but Barkley was clearly way better at offense ie basketball skill. And before anybody comes at me, no I don't consider defense a "skill" thing. It's either a you're a super athlete or have tremendous hustle thing. Some of the greatest defenders ever like Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman could barely even shoot a basketball. But they were goons. Thing is Barkley had tremendous basketball skill, but he was a goon too.

If anything Giannis game is perfectly tailored to today's 5 wide spacing strategy. Imagine Giannis playing with like... Bill Cartwright and Horace Grant as his 4 and 5 instead of Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis. His game would literally be inoperable without 3pt spacing from all his teammates. It wouldnt work.

What would be cool is if you could combine all the best aspects of Chuck and Giannis into one guy. Because then youd have an extremely high level player, or what you might call a "homeless man's Lebron."
