To anyone who watches Cavs games, how has Evan Mobley changed? He seems a lot better and more consistent now. Easier to believe in him as a player these days. Was it just natural development or did he make some sort of major change

He's shown from his rookie year that he had tremendous potential. It doesn't seem like he's changed his game - he's just finally putting it all together. He was always a defensive force. It was his offense that was inconsistent - especially last year.

A few reasons...

He's improved his outside shot to make it at least respectable. When he came into the league he was shooting in the lower 60s from the line, he's improved it every year and is now at 78% this season.

He's more aggressive around the basket and doesn't look to pass as often.

He puts the ball on the floor with more confidence and goes to the basket.

...all of these things show up in his stats. Even though he's playing less minutes per game than he last the last three years, his shot attempts are up, but efficiency is the same.

Truth be told though...he'll never fully blossom until he's given the ball more. He's a 3rd option right now behind Garland and Mitchelle. And as long as that continues to be the case you'll never fully see him at his potential consistently becuase he doesn't get the ball enough between the three fo those players. He has the potential to be a prime LaMarcus Aldridge offensively, but be an elite defensive player at the same time.

Has he really improved, or is he just getting a couple more shots per game? I think it may just be the coach trying to include him more, not necessarily improvement by him.

I think he's getting more shots because he's improved. Mitchell and particularly Garland and looking at his a legit offensive option now.

What part of his game has improved? His shooting percentage is actually down slightly from last year.

I think it is just Atkinson stressing ball movement instead of the usual guard isos.

Edit: sure enough Mitchell is taking 1.8 fewer shots per game.

It seems to be more of a mindset thing. Perhaps it's on the coaching staff, but he seems to be making quicker decisions and attacking more than he has in the past. This leads me to believe he's grown in confidence.

Yeah it sounds similar to AD in that the team has been more emphatic about force feeding him the ball and insisting that he play big and dominate.

Its weird thatd youd ever have to tell talented, big body NBA players to be aggressive, but... sometimes you do apparently.

His new coach has been nothing short of spectacular so far.
