View Full Version : Ray is gonna end up way down that list. He and Reggie won’t be top 10 before long.

Who did Reggie pass for number 1. Probably like Dale Ellis?
I have a book that has every stat record up until 1994. Things surely looked different 30 years ago.
No one ever imagined a triple double would happen again, I'm sure or that anyone would pass Kareem point total.
I don't think Stockon had the assist and steals record yet.

Yea I would imagine it was Dale Ellis.
And we ran the numbers on someone passing Kareem, probably 15 years ago and it didn’t seem realistic.
guys are lasting much longer. For all we talk about LeBron Kevin Durant is right there at 36 doing 27-28 a game and shooting 50-55% the last few years. Guys are gonna routinely be able to play at a high level for 20 years it seems.

it’s crazy how far Chris Paul is still behind Stockton. He’s averaging 8.6 this year and would need to keep it up for 5 more years and play every single game to even be close.

The way the game is played now fosters the possibility of all these records being broken. With the 80s and 90s playing style and rules, the amount of records
surpassed would be much lower. Also, guys like Stockton and Malone were averaging twenty points in their late thirties, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was an all-star (and won a ring) in his forties. The longevity of the players has been there for a long time.

Paul misses a lot of games. He's 300+ games behind and he's in his 19th season. John played 19 seasons.

And Ewing was terrible is his last 3. He just survived on name alone. Clyde was serviceable his last season and was an All-Star in seasons 14.

Seems like over time everyone gets pushed out of whatever prominence they enjoyed during their careers. Elgin Baylor was one of the worst cases of this maybe there's more 60s guys you could argue but Baylor always sticks out to me, him and Dr.J.

Its wild how much less attempts those guys had compared to the norms of today.
Miller retired as the career leader in threes but his 4.7 attempts per game would just be good for 93rd today tied with Andrew Wiggins.

Curry, Ray, and Reggie are the top 3 shooters ever regardless for me. If Miller and allen were in today's 3point-a-thon they'd be having even more of a field day.

This. I think they could even be in MVP discussions in their best seasons. Reggie was one of the best players when the playoffs came, anyway, he just didn't bring his A game in the Regular Season. As he says in his book, I had the A, B and C moves for the first 82 games, and I saved the D, E and F moves for the post-season.

The game has changed greatly since 2015. Warriors started the trend. Think about all the threes the Warrior was shooting in 2015. Right now multiple teams are shooting twice as many threes as those Warriors were.
Players like Reggie and Allen were ahead of their time, but with the way the game has changed and with how more effective and boring it is now to jack up threes, they will be surpassed.

Klay would be 2nd if not for the two lost seasons a few years ago.

TRIPLE DOUBLE
was not mentioned once in the book. Not even about Oscar Robertson when they write up a small blurb about each season up until 1994. It’s not in the stat section as well with all the other stats. Russell Westbrook made this a phenomenon a few years ago.
But These were the top 5 up until 1994 just from looking online
181 Oscar Robertson
138 Magic Johnson
78 Wilt Chamberlain
59 Larry Bird
43 Fat Lever

If you can understand the context why do you care?
Also who cares about these stats other than nerds?
I mean it’s a team game and we watch to see which TEAM wins.
So why are we tripping on individual stats?
Why don’t you just watch individual solo sports?
