I think the only other teams who I'd rank above them are the KD/Curry Warriors.
This Celtics team is legitimately "stacked", but not in a fully traditional way. They are stacked because they might be the closest team to playing perfect "analytical" basketball. They have almost a 10-deep squad who can all shoot the 3-ball while also being legitimate 2-way players. They are like a more top-talent heavy version of the 13/14 Spurs in a way, except clearly they shoot a lot more threes. They also have high IQ players who know how to play in the current system and have JUST enough passing/unselfishness to make it all work consistently.

3-POINT EFFICIENCY FOR REGULAR SEASON GAMES WHERE MJ HAD 3+ ATTEMPTS:
1985...... 4-18
1986...... 3-6
1987...... 5-22
1988...... 1-3
1989...... 16-49
1990...... 75-187
1991...... 11-30
1992...... 13-39
1993...... 68-185
__________________________
total....... 196-539 (36.4%)
3-POINT EFFICIENCY FOR PLAYOFF SERIES WITH 3+ ATTEMPTS - regular line only (HIGHLIGHTED BELOW):
https://i.makeagif.com/media/10-18-2023/rNUkaK.gif
53-135 (39.2%)
TLDR: From 85-93', Jordan shot 36.4% on threes in games that he had 3+ attempts (539 attempts), and 39% in series with 3+ attempts (regular line only) - aka there's no record of MJ shooting poorly at today's volumes and whenever he had above "bailout" volume (extremely low volume - only bailouts taken)... Since MJ always shot well at today's volumes despite no practice (36-39%), he would be elite in today's game WITH practice (40% or more).

Agreed assuming they are healthy. They should have a 2016-Warriors type run considering they brought back everybody, and now they are more confident than ever. Tatum should have his best year as an NBA player.

That's only because Pippen was a bricklayer and worst-ever efficiency in the playoffs.
Otoh, MJ kept up his end of the bargain by always shooting at today's standard when he had 3+ attempts, and otherwise he only had low-efficiency "bailout" volume (1.5 attempts or less), which brought down his career efficiency.
They are the best team at playing todays game. You cant even compare them historically because last season they had a top 5 SRS but didn't have a mvp candidate. Their offense was +8 last year and even higher this year so it tells me that modern ball isnt even comparable to a few seasons ago. The game is evolving quickly and probably contributes to why we haven't seen a repeat champion the last few years. For this season we are seeing transition breaks uptick and players are covering more distance which is leading to more injuries. So the Celtics are the balls for now but the game is changing quickly.

Yes agreed and is similar to my OP.
Another big reason for the championship parity is how player contracts work and the 2nd apron. Makes it very hard to keep an elite team for a long time.
The Celtics have by far the best repeat chance because unlike a lot of recent champs, they did not lose any depth nor did they lose a key player. I fully expect them to repeat again this year, they are just too well built and play the highest level of modern "analytical basketball".

Celtics 6-1 without Tatum this year. They also have 3 guys in the top 7 for 3 pointers made this year (Tatum, White, Pritchard) all between 45-49% on threes.
Their whole team can play 5 out ball at an elite level and also defend at an elite level. On top of that, they are high IQ and have by far the best chemistry in the league with their core being around their whole careers.
They are basically the 20's versions of the Spurs. It's extremely rare to see their core around so long especially with the new 2nd Apron contract rules destroying teams

Celtics 6-1 without Tatum this year. Tatum has only missed 1 game this season. Unless you are referring to stuff from last season?
Yea i think we were 6-1 last year
1-0 this year
The 1 loss was that BS game in Indy when they reversed the call on JB getting hit on the head
