View Full Version : You think less college experience results in more injury prone players selected?

So much convo today about the reasons why guys are seemingly always out all the sudden.

And it probably is a combination of factors. Different style of play and spacing is certainly likely to be part of it.

But I wonder if injury prone guys are less identifiable now because of all the one and dones. Back in the day they all played 3+ years in college.

If Greg Oden is injured in his freshman year and then declares for the draft, how are you supposed to know if it's a pattern or not? Youre just blindly hoping it's a freak thing. Or if Zion does stay healthy for one season, you dont really know if youre in the clear.

Some guys are phenomenal talents but their bodies just arent built to sustain multiple pro seasons. When guys were playing three or four years in college there was probably more evidence for who's likely to hold up and who isnt.

I dont expect the college rule to change as a result of this possible explanation. But Im just throwing it out there as maybe part of the reason so many guys come into the league as stars but then cant stay healthy year after year.

Isn't this like...obvious? More time away from NBA = more data gathered about a player before draft.

Ohh, it's "SO ****ING OBVIOUS" is it?? Well then SHOW ME A ****ING THREAD where it's ever been discussed. Because I dont think anything being "SO ****ING OBVIOUS" ever disqualifies something from discussion on ISH or in the mainstream media. You catch my drift buddy boy??

So you show me, iamgine, YOU SHOW ME WHERE ANYONE EVER SAID THIS. You show me exactly where this 'so obvious idea' has been pointed out before. Because I KNOW most people arent coming up with their own F*CKING ideas, so if it aint discussed in the open, it aint F*CKING obvious to them.

Youre a real ****ing asshole, you know that??

Probably... the college practice schedule is ridiculously grueling and it builds up resistance... Imagine having a 30 minute individual workout at 6 am with the coaches... And then conditioning for another 90 minutes... Then attend class in late morning... Then two 3-hour practices after class from 3 to 9... That was a standard preseason schedule for a D1 player in the late 90's.

As time has gone on, players have gotten more coddled and quite simply don't have to play half the time and get to "sit out" a lot and on whims

At first I didn't see any correlation, but your answer makes sense. However, things like the NBA preseason training camps, summer leagues, etc. are also supposed to build endurance, right?
