Clyde Drexler one of the great leapers and players of all time:

Because he didn’t have the internet to show him everything spectacular from every crevice of the world for the previous 20 years.
Same thing happened with handles. Deeper “bag” at the expense of originality and in some cases…the basics. Not that it’s a “problem” it’s just…different.
A whole generation or two took Jordan’s fade because they saw 3000 of them. Everyone did a dream shake or two. Now everyone sees eurosteps and stepbacks.
Thats just how it works.
The players I came up watching would have been entirely different if they could see every other good player in the world and everything the previous generation did. Gervin probably takes that weird elbow motion out of his jumper by watching some tutorial on proper technique. Maybe doesn’t spend years flipping every variety of layup off the backboard as he works out how to play on his own. Doesn’t become who he is.
That said…Kyrie came up in modern times and learned weird ass finishes off a broken backboard.
Que Sera Sera.
Whatever will be will be.
