How long until it's phased out? I haven't cared about it at all. It jst feels gimmicky to try to gain interest in the early part of the season because NFL owns the NBA in ratings.

Far as the winner? No. But the final few games last year were played like both teams wanted to win for real. Dont get much of that in December. So I’ll watch the finals of it long as the money is motivating the players to care.

Also, it’s sponsored. And they spent whatever it cost to make all those new courts. It’s also part of the new rights deal with Amazon who I believe have exclusive rights to its finals. It’s an 11 year deal. It’s not going anywhere. They didn’t go in thinking fans would love it immediately. They’re trying to make it like soccer in Europe that has multiple things you can win in a season and make it traditional.

12 years from now the fans they really care about won’t even remember a time before it.

I did read that Amazon is trying to shake up the schedule to avoid the NFL though. NBA on NBC is already making Sunday night basketball to start the first week Sunday night football is gone.

They’re gonna find a way to duck the NFL and try to own the spring heading into the playoffs.

maybe schedule the finals the week after the Super Bowl right before the All-Star break?

The only thing I've liked from it is the courts. Some of the games were a little more competitive last season I thought, but meh.

Only because the games had atmosphere you normally don't get so early in the season. I have a feeling they will use it for a testing ground for new ideas like the courts I'm sure we'll see special jerseys for them in the next few seasons too.

I will care so long as the players care. And the vibe so far is teams generally do ramp it up a little bit for these cup games. But as far as who actually wins the thing? It doesn’t really matter to me at all.

Wasn't the whole point to give the NBA a boost in that pre-Christmas period where people generally don't care to watch (ie: the NBA season doesn't start until Christmas Day problem).

I would like to see the Celtics win it but I wasn't that upset when they lost last season.

I'll watch the finals, but I don't care about the outcome( I don't care who wins the NBA title either, so there's that). I find the courts a bit distracting.

I care about it on the same level I care about the regular season and the all-star game.

The ones who celebrated it the previous season are pretty pathetic tbh. It's basically a lame afterthought. Nothing more, nothing less.

All they needed to do was guarantee a playoff spot for the finalists and then you'd have some real interest.

I don't understand how they could miss this opportunity. It used to be in soccer in Europe that most cup winners got at least an invite to the UEFA cup, meaning any team, including complete amateurs in the lower ranks could potentially get to play on the biggest stage.

It also would not count against the draft seedings.

Think about how much more exciting it would make a lot more games if teams that were rebuilding and tanking could just focus their effort on the cup?

correct - I actually believe when a player retires , it will be put on his resume' and potentially have enough cred , to help get a player in the HOF. (It will take a while for that to happen)

The Celtics current qualifier scenario clarified how much I care to me. Yes, I know that sounds a bit mental:

If the Cavs beat the Hawks and the Celtics beat the Bulls tonight the Celtics advance.

If the Hawks beat the Cavs the Celtics situation is not so rosey... they may still have a way to qualify but I'm not sure.

But if the Hawks beat the Cavs the Celtics are closer to talking the lead for the top seed. So even though there are over 60 games left...I would rather see the Hawks beat Cleveland.

But I do still want the Celtics to win the chip. I would just rather have that half game in the standings race.
