The Lakers are a mess lately

The thing is the Lakers have been overachieving this season and are just coming back down to earth lately.

I'd say the Lakers are currently playing about as well as expected, which is an average so slightly below average team.

They sure are below average lately though, especially tonight

No, they are massively underachieving. They should be a title contender on paper. They're obviously not playing like it. They're stacked with talent, have 3 all stars, a borderline all star, and a rookie of the year candidate.

I was listening to a podcast called Hoops Tonight with Jason Timpf. He breaks down games around the league and is also a Lakers fan. He said earlier in the season they were playing through AD primarily. More recently Lebron's usage rate has gone way up while he is struggling and it has really hurt their offense. Plus some guys are in slumps.

Of course they are still struggling with transition defense but they were struggling with that when they were winning.

AD started the season playing like a top 3/MVP level but has trailed off a bit, and Lebron before tonight had a two week stretch of being really, really subpar.

There was one defensive play last night where everything totally broke down and they were all looking at each other cluelessly.

The problem is people are putting these expectations for them to be title contenders because they have LeBron when reality is they're are just a fringe playoff team and JJ is doing the very best with what he has to work with

Their defense was 26-29th even during their hot start, their record was not sustainable at all. AD is also not playing like Jokic.

Early in the season the Lakers half court defense was top 10. Their transition defense was so bad, and still is, that their overall defense was in the 20s.

Trae Young is a low IQ moron. The game should never have gone into OT in the first place. The game is tied, Hawks have the last possession, and there's plenty of time on the clock. Young dribbles out the clock, takes a 30-foot three pointer while closely guarded by two guys - and gets blocked. And even if he managed to not get blocked, it's still a shot that has about a 5% chance of going in. Just stupid.
