View Full Version : You barely even remember him there. And then he played 10 more years.

Did anyone in history play longer after falling off?
I feel like it’s gotta be Vince or Kevin Willis. Kevin played till he was like 45 but he was still good in his mid to late 30s.
When did Vince stop being good? Dallas?

Juwan Howard is up there, he made his only all star game in 1996 and played until 2013.

nobody remembers him these days despite being a pretty big part of the bad boy pistons but James Edwards was in the league so long he played against people from the 60s and people from the 2000s. That guy was scored on by Walt Fraser and Earl Monroe and then Rasheed Wallace too.
I wish somebody would grab more of those people for these interviews. He started against MVP season Bill Walton and was in the league with KG. Imagine the stories he has.

Them old big guys lasted long. Charles Jones probably has similar years in the league.

The first name that came to mind. His last years in Miami were surreal, crazy to think they were wasting one player spot on him, they could have hiad him
as assistant coach or another capacity and give his place to another, more useful player.

IIRC, after New Jersey he was never starting material.

Good at what? Do you see how fast Carmelo Anthony vanished from the NBA when he lost athleticism? He wasn't even a tenth of the role player VC was. VC played great defense, on some really good defenses he contributed to and started on.
IIRC, after New Jersey he was never starting material.
Absolute horseshit. He was in Orlando Magic lineups in 2010 that was destroying the Eastern conference. 2010 Orlando had 2001 Lakers level domination through the semifinals.
Revisionism ITT.
Vince Carter was a good defender and decent scorer until at least 2013 with Dallas.
He was a playoff starter in 2017. But the average dummy will still think a guy like Carmelo is not only greater all-time, but actual had more substance to his game than Vince. Vince has a seriously underrated career. Peak, prime, everything, save for some nonsense in Toronto.
Compare his aging to Westbrook or Carmelo.

Yep. Edwards was a big part of those nice Suns teams with Walter Davis.

Carmelo was always highly overrated

Carmelo played Till he was about to turn 38. He was still in the NBA when he was the age Chris Paul was when he left the suns. Would anyone say Paul fell off early? I feel like he isn’t the best example of someone who didn’t last very long. He played 18 fewer games then AC Green did. And AC played till he was 37 and didn’t miss a game for like 15 years in a row. Carmelo played a LOT of nba ball.

Did a lot of losing and hyping himself during that time. Id take ac green over him anyday. He certainly wouldnt have demanded a trade while gutting the team he wanted to go to or refusing to come off the bench while the lesser team targets you all series in a loss or cry because your team is finally winning because of an asian and not you

I dont know about fallen off but it feels like Haslem and Deng played a really long time as mostly irrelevant.
Vince was still a serviceable player.
He was great as a Mav in the mid 2010s.
But he did still have a lot of useless years after.

They made the conference finals his only season there.
He hates his birthday ever since, you know... Kobe's tragic demise. :ohwell:
He also has a distinction of playing in four different decades.

i’m just wondering who he lost a lot in comparison to. He came into the league at 19 years old on a team that had won 27 and 17 games the two years prior and never missed the playoffs until he was 30. He must’ve made the playoffs 12 or 13 times.
an incredibly long list of NBA legends of all variety of player had no more playoff success than he did.
He had a pretty standard career for let’s say a….third tier legend.

How did he ever miss the playoffs in the east as supposedly one of the greatest players in the game?

Way too many all-time greats some of them all-time elites have had teams win 30 something games to bother explaining how it’s possible to anybody who has ever watched the NBA. A Dwyane Wade led team once won 15 games in his prime and while he missed a bunch of them, they were on a 16 game pace in the 51 games he played. Considering Jordan, Kareem, and Wilt are the starting point I’m not sure Wade would even be a top five all timer to dip into the 30s or below. We are probably 75 years past the point that question still needed asking. Sometimes teams are bad. Even if Several players on them are good. Not much else to it.

What I notice is how many moves he has in this video, dribble, post, spin, shoot, whole bag of tricks. We never see this anymore.

I remember him in Orlando vividly. The playoff series in 2010 against the Celtics, can't remember the game or sequence off hand, but he had 3 FTs late in the game, and missed all 3 lol.

Because of the the team. This was prime Dwight , they kept good shooting around Dwight with Ryan Anderson, Rashard wasn't an all star but still a shooter, jameer JJ Redickand pietrus were shooting well, and decent role players gortat, Brandon bass were fine bigs but Vince didn't particularly move the needle in terms of replacing hedo who was playing like star the season prior.
He follows LeBron, not the Magic.
Got me confused with someone else I hate lebron and unfortunately love the magic
