I’ve never liked Cedric at all, until watching this honest video of him.

I liked him in the comic view days. He’s not elite, but I can listen to him most of the time.
And really if this was a long time ago before Jordan and Barkley had their issues and stopped hanging out, Barkley might not have been that much richer than Cedric at the time. He just didn’t give a ****. He made like 40 million before taxes in his career and he’s acknowledged more than $25 million in gambling losses. It’s probably one reason he’s been threatening to retire from TNT for 10 years, but never does.
He’s got a $200 million TNT contract so he doesn’t have to worry about it anymore. Even he can’t gamble that much. Phil Mickleson did though. So I guess it can be done.

That's wild - gambled away 3/4s of his career earnings?
Can't even imagine why rich people gamble in the first place, you already have my money so what's the point? I guess it's an addiction like everything else, once you get hooked it's hard to stop.

Gambling is a way for older former athletes to still get the mental sensation of intense, high stakes competition, without destroying their increasingly fragile knees and backs.

Fair enough.
But I think Jordan was gambling heavily prior to his baseball hiatus. Even whilst winning championships he was playing golf for money.

Barkley is definitely an addict. I read article where he said seven times he has won $1 million in a night but he has lost over a million way more times than that. He said he will be up 600 or $700,000 and his friends will try to get him to call it a night, but when he got up that high, he would never leave till he was up a million even if he lost all he made and owed a million back on top of it. Real “degenerate gambler” shit.

Will check but peep haha.
You know how MJ was like yo lemme **** your wife to that one dude, I am legit surprised these insane, overly competitive gambling addicts didn’t wager their wife at one time or another.

I can't help but think this is a reflection on how stupid MJ and Barkley were financially.

I wish the NBA cup existed back then. Imagine a one game finals with Jordan and Barkley playing for half a million.
I’m sure they both bet on basketball in ways. Stories have been told about it but a in public legitimized one game with a half million on the line?
Thats “Cancel all plans” tv.

No doubt.
It’s fairly common knowledge here in chicago amongst “those kind” of older Italian/irish/jewish/greek dudes, that Jordan’s gambling (and who it was with) is what caused his hiatus in between 3-peats. Would have been an 8-peat if the league didn’t “quietly suspend” him for the huge sums he was gambling on himself to give him extra motivation in that 1993 finals vs Phoenix, where he averaged 41. He was not only gambling on the games, but also against Barkley and his chicago and phoenix bookies on the golf courses (sports gambling was highly illegal everywhere but Vegas back then)

Jordan vs Barkley was damn near as timelessly great as “BULLS VS KNICKS”… alltime classic NBA matchups.

Has it ever been reported if they were actually good at gambling?

jordan was because he had deep pockets and the borderline suicidal never back down gene. Mix that with some of the more simple actions vegas offers and he came out quite well. You have to understand that it wasn’t about money it was about winning and losing. And Jordan always won because he had his heart set on it at another level. Jordan represents the personification of mind over matter
