Teams should be able to set their own 3pt line distance

I heard this idea somewhere...supposedly to combat everybody playing the same way nowadays. Which makes the NBA boring.

So at the start of the season, teams will set their own 3pt line distance. They can choose from the current 3pt distance up to the half court line. When playing at home, that is the distance that will be used. We will see a lot more styles and team identities. Plus, this is true home court advantage.

I think teams should be able to use irregularly shaped 3-point lines too. Get a little squiggle in there.

Get rid of the line altogether. Just put circles all over the court with random point values. Better yet, make them color-changing lights that switch every 2 seconds or so, and depending on the color of the light your shot is worth x amount of points. Baskets made by Filipino players are worth double to promote diversity.

I'm curious how this would solve anything though since even the worst 3pt shooting teams of today still rely on them way more than teams of past 2pt eras.

What team in the NBA today is so dominant @ 2pt game that they'd want to extend the line to like 35 feet or whatever?

There will be teams who decide to build an old school big man team. Warriors & Bucks might be going for 28 feet or something because they have the guy who can shoot that.

Haha. It’s pretty bad tbh. If it was less variance like +2 feet it might be interesting, but this ain’t baseball.

They just need to call the game right. No more crazy step backs and let people play physical on perimeter. Call illegal picks. Call shuffled feet, too.
