this is just my opinion, and it has nothing to do with my Bucks winning it last night -
The cup is here to stay.
1) desire to win
2) the money
3) puts it on your resume for history
4) The NBA can't lose
This tournement started last year with LA winning it ,, but it seemed more like an experiment
Now it feels legit ... and here is the advantage to playing your best ball at this time
(you don't have to wait till xmas for a game or games to mean something. )
Teams get the taste of playoff bball and they learn from it.
(what to do , what not to do)
Finally I will say that every possession ,specially in the first half of OKC vs Bucks was like a dagger after dagger
Competitive , entertaining

If they really wanna invest in this tournament, the final game should be scheduled in February this way fans will have a couple months in advance to book a trip to Vegas to support their team. As it is, fans are only given two days in advance to know who is playing the cup final. That's why the arena was half empty for OKC/Bucks game. Being in February, you could also replace the all star game with the NBA Cup final since it seems no one knows how to fix the all star game anymore.

You know what's hilarious, I'm here typing out basically this exact idea practically word for word and I swear, I didn't read your post until I was about half-way through writing out mine. This is precisely what I'm thinking, the most boring part of the season is December through February, this is when I would say is a good time to drum up interest using the tournament culminating in the Cup finals replacing the all-star game.

You can still have the Cup games in november and December. And then the main game on all star weekend where you can still have the dunk contest and three point contest. There would be more interest in watching on a Feb weekend than a random tuesday in December especially centered around all the other all star festivities. Fans could plan ahead and make a weekend Vegas trip out of it. I dont know if the NBA intends on keeping it in Vegas every year though, but potentially hosting it in other non-NBA cities like Paris or Tokyo might be interesting as well (expanding business beyond north america is clearly Silver's main pet project)

Nah. The only interesting left to watch is deep in the POs. That’s it.

Yeah, please stop trying to validate this clown idea, I'm all for trying to make the regular season better, but this completely meaningless tournament isn't the solution.

the reason why they have the cup at this time , cause interest starts at xmas , , then trade deadline , then playoffs.
This time period brings in revenue.
Flying or driving to vegas to see your team play in the cup finals .. may need a bit of tweaking ,, but cup finals should really
be during the weekend.. for travel purposes.

It's total bullshit. A pig with lipstick on. Ignoring the fact that no-one gives a **** about it and that it doesnt make any difference to a teams season, it has other problems.
Having the final on a random Tuesday night is so dumb. It makes it hard for fans of the teams in question to attend and takes away any potential prestigiousness.
The time of year it happens is also stupid. Sandwiched right between Thanksgiving and Xmas which are two times of year most people travel around.
It only gets interesting after the group stage and even then, only to the fans of the teams involved. Before that they're just RS games with a different name.
The coloured courts are horrible.
Ultimately, winning it means nothing. If the Bucks bomb out of the PS then the Cup win will become a punchline, just as it did for the Lakers when they raised that banner. If a scrub team picks up the cup, it's hardly a franchise changing moment. Once again it become a punchline.
Adam Silver is an incompetent fool who is single handedly destroying this league.

I put more stock into this cup win than the nba championship last year. At least you guys only played against 2 teams riddled with injuries and not 3

I personally couldn't care less about the cup, haven't watched a single 'cup' game, but my suggestions are based on if they're going to keep it then at least time it during the slow part of the season and replace the all-star game with the final, which is even more of a joke. But yes the entire thing, the cup, the all-star weekend save the 3point contest, is a clown show.
As an aside, I'm hearing that the all-star participants are all making 125k for the game. Pocket change for players earning 40-60 million a season, not sure what they were making before, but having to throw even more money at these fukkers is the fundamental issue. Once you go down that rabbit hole, 125 will not be enough to 'incentivize' them and you'll have to keep raising the number. I don't give a shit how 'skilled' the modern players are, this really is the worst era I've seen.
