well we see a trend where there's more of an emphasis on bigs to pass and facilitate the offense, obviously jokic is extraordinarily good at this and would likely have led the league in it regardless of trends. but let's be honest, any half decent big can get a double double...so they're already 2/3rds the way there, so not shocking to see domantas in there. but yeah, i just see a pattern of wing players leading the category then bigs leading it in the present. it's a product of wing players increasing their 3pt shooting volume as well...more likely to be standing around the 3pt line than to penetrate or facilitate.

Russ was able to ball dominate more after KD left. He crashed the boards hard obviously and part of it was a gameplan to let him get the defensive rebound and push the tempo.

Rebounds got easier to get with more possessions and more of an emphasis on small ball. This and long rebounds from 3 point attempts give guards more rebounding opportunities.

Jokic and Sabonis both have benefited off freedom of movement era nba with lots of shooting. This helps them pick up more assists. There also less and less traditional big men so they get to clean up the boards.

So a combination of less true big men and more spaced out, up tempo, smaller line ups. Ball domination being more tolerated.

There was an article not too long ago that talked about the decline of the NBA and it had to due with its pursuit of expanding internationally. (Maybe it was referenced in one of the threads here, can't recall)

It stated that a lot of the fans can no longer relate to star players the last decade so they are disconnected. This stat shows dominance of euro-ball in the NBA

Lance Stephenson leading the league in triple doubles at 5 total is crazy. Especially after the numbers started to go up.

Jack of all trades

Master of none.

Yeah I think that fits each player listed.

Triple double has always been a weird arbitrary stat that doesn’t matter at all.

The athleticism of Russell Westbrook was off the charts. The most energetic and explosive player we’ve ever seen.

1. Perk & to a lesser degree “Ole man KG” let Rondo steal rebounds and start transition sooner. And some questionable assists were accredited fairly frequently to Rondo. There are some famous clips from his “20 assist game” that are no doubt not assists.

2. Lance was aggressive and strong enough to actually get the boards, and an inept enough scorer to be forced to compile assists in all his usage.

3. Adams, perhaps more than any other big in history, drastically deflated what his real defensive rebound numbers would have been, to let Billy Donovan “fix” Russell Westbrick. Russell wanted to be scoring champ, Donovan convinced him to pursue alltime greatness via triple doubles instead, and Adams played ball with the plan, self sacrificing for Russ.

4. Best passing center of all time appeared, and was a threatening enough 3-level scorer to open up defenses in EVERY WAY, enough to really abuse them with his passing, while he easily got double doubles every other night.

5. Sabonis does a similar thing as Jokic, without the other two levels of scoring, and with an uglier, more brutal, “seeks contact” game, in a smaller, more athletic frame, that runs the floor much better, but is still big enough to get easy double doubles every night he doesn’t get a trip dub.

Space and pace. The game is faster than ever with more spacing than ever and the officiating allows freedom of movement which balloons triple double numbers.

I haven't looked it up, but isn't this the highest pace since the 60s? If so, then it's easy to see what happened. Remember that Wilt wasn't the only one dropping cartoon numbers or Big O's triple doubles, you had guys like Elgin Baylor doing shit like 37 and 18.
