They could've promoted it in different ways.
Best in the present vs best in the future.
Best offensive player vs best defense defensive player.
Something like that. Both games were close and they didn't disappoint on the performance.
It's not just them, I'm not too sure if they are good at promoting SGA and Giannis either. It doesn't help they are in smaller markets. It may not help that all of them are international players too. I feel like it's the first time it's like this in NBA history.
Magic/Bird transition to MJ was smooth. You also had Barkley, Malone, Hakeem and Ewing.
I remember when MJ retired, the transition to next generation was a little shaky. Even though they had Shaq/Kobe/AI. But they still promoted them. Duncan wasn't promoted as much.
After Shaq/Kobe/Duncan retired the transition with LeBron/Curry/KD was much more smooth. It was because they were already winning and ppl were familiar of them. When Curry was doing his thing in 2016, it was mind blowing. LeBron went to the Heat, so you had the Heatles. D-Wade was popular too. Carmelo. CP3 and etc.
This time it's really weird. Maybe it's just me, but I don't know. Transition between LeBron/Curry/KD to Jokic/Giannis/Embiid/SGA/Luka/Wemby is a bit rough. As I said, it doesn't help they a lot of them are in small market teams and are international players.
I don't remember this really happening to LeBron. When Kobe was the best, and you had LeBron facing him. They were on national tv. When MJ was the best and you had Kobe facing him, I remember ppl were talking about it even though Kobe was no where near MJ level of play at that time. They still promote Lakers vs Warriors whenever they can cuz of LeBron vs Curry.
I know it may not just be the nba. The broadcast partners may not have confidence in the current stars. But this is going to be a problem once LeBron/Curry/KD retire. Am I tripping?
