View Full Version : Letting home teams choose their own 3 point dimensions

I like this idea. In baseball, every field has their own home run distances. We need to get back to ''balanced'' basketball. It would be great to let teams decide their own 3 point lines. They can decide game to game. Maybe even half to half. But it would ensure that teams focus on both 3 pointers and other types of play. We should give teams different options. Regular 3 point line, increased 3 point line, increased 3 point line plus no corner 3s, and also the option of NO 3 pointers.

I don't see the downside to this. Teams that can only win by shooting 3s will be exposed. Teams that only rely on traditional bigs will be exposed at times too. But this would ensure that we get to see the best of both worlds. We would have the best mix of basketball and it would become less predictable.

Please Adam Silver, at least consider this if you are reading. We can at least test it for a year. Once we get used to it, I don't think we should go back.

Seeing irregular 3 point lines would be a trip. I’m imagining a fenway park equivalent. Maybe a team has only one corner 3. Or a team with a lot of size has the 3 point line all the way back near the half court line.

Better yet, the 3 point line should be invisible and randomly generated each play.

Stop with the dumb, gimmick 3 point suggestions. These will legitimately ruin the NBA. Three point shots are not the end all, be-all to winning in the NBA, even now.

All they have to do is bring back the 2006 rule book and simply allow more physicality on the perimeter. The problem is the NBA rules used to be a challenge teams had to overcome, but now the NBA rules HELP the offensive players and ENCOURAGE the current NBA format.

Teams will obviously still shoot threes, but attempts and percentages will for sure come down if we bring back the 2006 rule book.

There's only one solution if the NBA thinks 3 point spamming is a problem. Get rid of the corner three and push the line back. You have to lower the shot percentage so that it makes mathematical sense to not shoot 50 of them per game.
