Exactly. The only reason those winds are so high in California, is cause just one state over, highweight is inhaling taco after taco and it's creating a massive suction from the Pacific all the way to Phoenix and that's why those wildfires are spreading. The man cannot stop eating tacos and he eats them with such ferocity that he creates hurricane force winds as a result.

As someone who has lived all over California north and south I find Trumps simplistic idea that all California has to do is divert water from the SF delta to Southern California pretty funny.

Do you know how complicated that shit is to accomplish politically? It’s a straight So Cal LA political DREAM proposition that no one in Northern California wants. The north doesn’t want to destroy their delta and send more water south. Trumps on some hardcore pro LA Hollywood stuff with that idea.

And you can’t conflate sending So Cal water with sending the Central Valley farmland water. They are 2 completely different issues.

trump has always believed he can just strong arm people into doing what he wants. he obviously failed catastrophically with that approach as president, but his mouth has always written checks much larger than he can cash.

That’s the point.

The “people voted” for the bullet train. On paper it’s a no brainer. It’s all the political, bureaucratic, environmental, and anti rail lobby BS that’s sniffled the trains progress.

Same shit with waterways, canals, aqueducts, desalination etc. The only difference is there’s never a majority vote from the people on water infrastructure. Nor Cal doesn’t like sending water south.

It’s not Hollywood at all. It’s all those corporate farm collectives screaming about water so they can grow thirsty crops in the desert. They’ve sucked the aquifers dry, now they want more.
They boycott carrots in Santa Barbara because the corporate farms have ****ed the water table so much.

This isn't even a thing about salt water, I live in California and for the last two winters it has rained an incredible amount compared to previous years (not so much this year), which pretty much ended the California drought. So it's pretty mind blowing to me how some fire hydrants where the fires were didn't even have water.

I'm not an expert on the subject, but what the hell is that about? I'm hearing the amount of fires created high demand for the hydrants which lowered the water pressure.

When you suggested literally splashing the ocean onto the fire I assumed you meant it should have been set a long time ago as a preventative measure, since the logistics are impossible to pull off in real time with how fast the fire was spreading.

There has to be a way to flood the streets or the mountains with water and with a giant body of water right next to those fires, it begs the question why some sort of pump and funneling device hasn’t been implemented yet.

This state is severely mismanaged that’s obvious, but the republicans wouldn’t have done anything better. That’s just wishful thinking, partisan delusion, or insanity.

California has swung back and forth between republicans and democrats controlling the state and different areas my entire life. It has always had some messed up stuff going on, whoever is in control, wherever they are in control. It’s never been perfect.

I lived in republican controlled areas that were drug infested toxic waste dumps that had fires or floods. I lived in Democrat controlled areas that were the same.

Never lived in a California that was truly independent though. Ran by people unaffiliated with the two major parties. Maybe that’s the change we need? Idk.

On the bright side though California aint all that bad. These fires are sometimes the price you have to pay to live in paradise.

Also I didn’t realize Californians did actually vote on some water collection reservoir shit back in 2014. I stopped voting back in 2008 for obvious reasons. It don’t matter.

What's crazy to me is the L.A. area has dusts ups of fires every single year because of the dry season and the Santa Ana Winds fanning those flames. It's literally like clockwork. So what does the leaders do? They close one of the largest water reservoirs in the area during this wind/fire season for maintenance. It's like they're daring Mother Nature to do it.

At this point the only thing that could be worse for that area is a 8.0 earthquake hitting while those fires are still burning.

You keep saying ‘flood the streets’ and I’m not even sure what you think this would accomplish.
They ran out of water because the houses were build in steep canyons and the tanks they have built above the homes have only so much capacity.
When the wind is blowing like it was, there is literally nothing that is going to stop a fire.

Pumps are highly expensive, energy hungry, and only have so much capacity. They are also prone to wear, which salt, sand, and marine life would certainly take a toll on.
Additionally, to pump water up a long, steep mountain would require a truly mind-blowing large pump, or series of pumps. You aren’t just pumping water at the source, you are pumping against the head of all the water already in the pipe, and the friction of the water against the inside of the pipe.
Then you have the land issues. Are you going to have the pumps and pipage on your land? How about the noise? A large enough motor for said pump would be as loud as a jumbo jet. The water in the pipe would be making noise too.
It’s just a pipe dream of an idea.

Californians always brag that they have a higher GDP alone than most other countries. Figure out a way to get it done. Californians complaining about cost is hilarious. Even if my idea isn’t plausible from a logistical standpoint, California has enough money to get something else done.

The Los Angeles Fire Department refused to deploy 1,000 firefighters and dozens of water-carrying engines ahead of the devastating Palisades blaze.

Officials at the fire department were warned of life-threatening winds that could increase the spread of a wildfire before the fire broke out on January 7, but decided to staff just five of more than 40 engines, according to a damning report from the Los Angeles Times.

No extra engines were then placed in the celebrity enclave of the Pacific Palisades

Instead, officials pre-positioned nine engines to the San Fernando Valley and Hollywood that were already on duty, expecting a fire might break out there.

Internal planning documents even showed that fire department officials said 'no' to deploying an additional nine engines, known as 'ready reserve' engines to fire-prone areas, the LA Times reports.

The fire chiefs only started calling up more firefighters and deploying engines after the blaze was already tearing its way through Los Angeles County.

They later said they moved more engines 'first thing in the morning' to cover northeast Los Angeles as the winds began to grow.

Yet Fire Chief Kristin Crowley has continued to defend the department's decisions, saying commanders had to be strategic with limited resources while also handling regular 911 calls amid massive budget cuts.
