California is on fire. 18000 acres, 2000 homes, 5 people dead.

It's a fact Newsom derailed a Trump order to send Southern California water from the Sierras to protect a threatened smelt fish which is genetically almost identical to another smelt fish close by, instead letting it flow into the ocean. It is a fact there is a video clip of Trump telling Newsom he needed to clean up the floors around the forests of southern California homes to prevent this type of event from happening. Which was ignored by Newsom. It is a fact that the liberal LA mayor cut the fire department budget and implemented a disastrous DEI program in the LA fire department resulting in her pick quitting because of incompetence, and 2 of the 3 general managers leaving because the department had become disfunctional. It is a fact that the LA Mayor chose to remain in Africa rather than return to her city that was burning.

i keep seeing this disingenuous budget cut as a reason of culpability, when in fact, it makes no difference. the budget in total still rose $50 million year over year and the LA FD budget is in excess of $800.

how does a fire budget help prevent 80 mph winds that helped fuel and rapidly spread this fire? $17 million wasn't going to fix the water distribution issues that lead to the fire hydrants not getting enough water.

but i guess it's all a lost cause arguing with factual logic since OP is a pdf file and has some fetish for being made look like an idiot.

As someone who has lived all over California north and south I find Trumps simplistic idea that all California has to do is divert water from the SF delta to Southern California pretty funny.

Do you know how complicated that shit is to accomplish politically? It’s a straight So Cal LA political DREAM proposition that no one in Northern California wants. The north doesn’t want to destroy their delta and send more water south. Trumps on some hardcore pro LA Hollywood stuff with that idea.

And you can’t conflate sending So Cal water with sending the Central Valley farmland water. They are 2 completely different issues.

"Seven months before the uncontrolled Palisades Fire in Los Angeles, the city's fire department budget for this fiscal year was cut by more than $17.5 million, records show.

Mayor Karen Bass signed the City of Los Angeles' budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The total budget for the city's fire department was $819.64 million.

Records show that for the previous fiscal year, the LAFD's total budget was $837.2 million. The total budget includes salaries, expenses and equipment.

Water wars are a big thing in California. Diverting water from Northern California to Southern California is a touchy subject, and isn’t as simple as liberal vs conservative or democrat vs republican. It’s literally Nor Cal vs So Cal.

The idea to bring more water to Southern California from the north is the pro LA So Cal political machine stance.

Not being able to carry a normal or even a larger dude(since most of america is obese) should probably disqualify someone from the job. I mean, I understand if you have some 400 lbs whale I won't be completely unreasonable here, but you need to be able to FIREFIGHTER carry someone in the mid 200's to safety.

Not just the fire department. The water department is equally infected and disfunctional

The $750,000-a-year LA water czar is responsible for a raft of failures that contributed to the devastating Palisades Fire, fire department insiders told DailyMail.com.

On Mayor Karen Bass's orders, the city maxed out its budget to 'attract private-sector talent', hiring Department of Water and Power (LADWP) CEO Janisse Quiñones on a $750,000 salary in May – almost double that of her predecessor.

Now, Quiñones is being blamed by LA Fire Department (LAFD) insiders for leaving a nearby reservoir disconnected and fire hydrants broken for months, DailyMail.com can reveal, leading to firefighters running out of water as they battled the devastating Palisades Fire this week.

It's no wonder despite modern technology in firefighting equipment, chemicals, preventative measures, fire resistant structures, etc that LA's worst fires have almost all been in the last 6 years. Pure incompetence. Maybe they can blame it on climate change.

And die hard liberals wonder how Trump flipped 10 California counties in a state full of Latinos that he's threatening to deport many of their relatives. Hint, they don't like Trump. They just think the Democrats are batshit crazy and hell bent on making everyone's life a living hell except the wealthy elite.

women have no business being firefighters. when it comes down to clutch moments carrying people out of burning buildings and busting down obstacles with axes a female just isn't going to cut it. we're talking about life & death here. especially when we're talking about an all-female squad.

The problem with the insta I linked is that it proves she's bad at thinking on her feet. In what world do you think "uhhhh if I have to carry him out it's his fault for being in the wrong place durr" is remotely an appropriate response? She honestly seems very unlikable and stupid. And yes, likability matters if she's going to be in a leadership position, team morale and all.

An illegal immigrant was arrested for setting the Calabasas fire. A Latino man was arrested for setting another small fire in Irwindale but firefighters put it out before he got big. Smaller fire was set by Ruben Montes, his immigration status is unclear.

I don't want to say poetic justice for LA making itself a sanctuary city and protecting the illegals that continue to prey on them. But damn wealthy white liberals that gots to sting. Especially when California spent 5+% of it's entire budget on illegal aliens. 23 billion(some estimates as high as 32 billion). How much is California going to spend on the wealthy white liberals who had their homes burnt down. Yeah , it's going to be something for them to chew on as they spend years rebuilding their homes.

The Los Angeles Fire Department refused to deploy 1,000 firefighters and dozens of water-carrying engines ahead of the devastating Palisades blaze.

Officials at the fire department were warned of life-threatening winds that could increase the spread of a wildfire before the fire broke out on January 7, but decided to staff just five of more than 40 engines, according to a damning report from the Los Angeles Times.

No extra engines were then placed in the celebrity enclave of the Pacific Palisades

Instead, officials pre-positioned nine engines to the San Fernando Valley and Hollywood that were already on duty, expecting a fire might break out there.

Internal planning documents even showed that fire department officials said 'no' to deploying an additional nine engines, known as 'ready reserve' engines to fire-prone areas, the LA Times reports.

The fire chiefs only started calling up more firefighters and deploying engines after the blaze was already tearing its way through Los Angeles County.

They later said they moved more engines 'first thing in the morning' to cover northeast Los Angeles as the winds began to grow.

Yet Fire Chief Kristin Crowley has continued to defend the department's decisions, saying commanders had to be strategic with limited resources while also handling regular 911 calls amid massive budget cuts.
