View Full Version : I don’t believe I have an informed opinion on who the best players in the league are.

I could maybe give you a solid seven or eight . The biggest names who have been at the top for two or three years at least. Of course I know about them. I’m talking mostly that next group coming up and some of the oldest stars aging out. I’m certainly informed enough to bullshit my way through some kind of top 10 and offer enough justification to not look stupid doing. But I’d just be making noise. I don’t believe I have enough information or experience watching to offer a legit take on any of the following people….
Cade Cunningham
Paolo
Steph curry this season only(I’ve heard he fell off but I’ve seen nothing to suggest it live).
Anyone on the Rockets, Kings, or Blazers. I couldn’t tell you specifics about the game of anyone on the Raptors.
Help me out on some of the easy ones.
Cade and Paolo. Give me a comparison historically(including recent history) that will give me an idea who those people are.
Is Steph still Steph or is he living off his name? I’ve seen like 2 games and he looked mostly like himself.
We can start there. Remove some of this ignorance.
I still don’t know shit about Scotty Barnes but I’ll leave that for another time. I just never make time for the Raptors.
The number of people I have to shut the **** up about is growing Alarmingly long by my standards. I don’t mind saying when I don’t know what I’m talking about. So somebody who does know give me some information.

Cade I don't know and haven't seen.
Paolo is fine, he can put up big scoring numbers attacking the basket but he's still a bit green in terms of using it to control the game. I dont think he came into the league with a 'general's perspective' on the game like a Lebron or a Trae or some of the European players, he's kind of an AAU talent who's still learning to be more well rounded. But he seems to be working on it so his ceiling should be pretty high.
I dont think the Kings have anyone you wouldnt already be familiar with. The Rockets and Blazers must have some young talents but I dont know a ton about any of em either. Reed Sheppard has struggled all year to find his shot and Amen Thompson threw Tyler Herro to the ground recently. That's about as much info as I've got.

Deni got off to a rough start with the Blazers but has really been playing well lately. I was so pissed on draft day when I found out about the trade but got over it after maybe a week. He was my favorite player on the team by far, the first pick outside the top 3 worth keeping in recent memory.

Cade is solid but he's been in the league for a while now and he's actually playing meaningful winning ball.
Not sold on banchero even being the best player on his team, I think Franz is better.
I think Scotty Barnes is an average player the raps are trying to build up to be a first option. He's maybe a 3rd or 4th option on a good team.
Steph is still super skilled but he is losing steam. Just watched him go 5-21 against the pistons. I don't think the warriors are winning any more rings during his tenure.
BTW I got a meta quest and while I'm not gonna be posting in VR, I will be watching sports. That shit gives me a 200 inch screen across my living room. This shit is such a compelling future
I'd say the current top 10 players this year are something like
SGA
Jokic
Giannis
Wemby
Tatum
Luka (would be higher but slow start, I'm sure he'll move up over Tatum once he's healthy)
Curry
Anthony Davis
Embiid (he's here out of respect, but his play hasn't matched it yet. If he can get back to where he was and play more, he can move up)
KAT is also killing it but his defense leaves a lot to be desired.

Hello OP. I would like to help you in your quest to learning about the best NBA players right now. Currently, the best player in the NBA is 22 years old center Alperen Şengün who plays for the Houston Rockets. His teammate Amen Thompson is widely regarded as the second best player in the league at the moment. Glad to help.

There was an app on the Quest that was closed down a few years ago, can't recall the name now but you could watch the games in VR as if you were sitting courtside. It was low resolution and a bit wonky in spots but a very cool effect regardless.

How the hell is Curry a top ten player this year?
He was an All NBA third teamer last year and this year he is playing much less consistent. His time as that dude has come and gone. It's OK to accept that even if you're a fan. He's 37 in March. It's Ok, really.... Its ok to admit he ain't the same.

Cade makes me think of Paul Pierce by the way he moves, creates space, and uses his body. He is playing more of a point guard role, but he is a polished and methodical scorer at heart. He can get to his spots with ease, pull-up from all over the court, and will post up a smaller player.
Paolo has been hurt this year, but he reminds me of Melo, but bigger. Maybe he doesn't have all of the scoring magic that Melo did, but his combination of physicality, footwork, and shotmaking ability definitely reminds me of Melo.

I saw a compilation of cade playing with his back to the basket that had people talking about Magic Johnson and I decided I’d pay a little more attention.

He does that thing that great scorers do where he's constantly doing little, relatively risk-free things to shake you off balance. Giving the defender multiple things to react to in a short time period, teasing them into a mistake, then capitalizing on it when they step wrong.

Basically Paolo has the chance to be a rich man’s Scottie Barnes.

:lol
Paolo is like a young Chris Webber if he played in this era.

There's still an app that does it. They got free games but I don't like it. It's not real court side obviously lol but they had the Knicks OKC game from last week blocked since I live in NYC. I'll randomly check it out but for some reason that makes me dizzier than the other VR stuff.

Cade Cunningham is not that guy. Ja Morant is that guy.
Franz Wagner is the best 23 year old SG since Harden.
Chet Holmgren is still as good as Wemby IMO.
Other than that, there’s not much. You definitely know who the elite are.
Sengun, Garland and Jalen Williams are all solid all-stars and newly so. But other than Chet and Wemby there’s no definitive guy who is definitely gonna be competing for MVP’s later in their careers.
100% not sold on Banchero yet. But at least he is a god defender already.
