This is a clip of the 1987 old timers All-Star game. First 3 minutes, only 2 missed shots from these old farts. And a blocked shot as well

Hook shots from Jerry Lucas and Hondo. Turn around fader swish from Spencer Haywood. Fancy passing from Mr Plumber himself Bob Cousy.

Pretty cool to see. I remember Cliff Hagan was hitting his patented sweeping hook shot in one of those Legends games. Auerbach described him as the Adrian Dantley of his time.

Not sure it was this game, but I watched one of these a while back where Connie Hawkins and Spencer Haywood hit back to back threes.
that said I personally know people in their 50s who can make roughly NBA range threes so it isn’t surprising Former NBA players can do it. It was fascinating to see how comfortable they were When so many retired without ever having taken one professionally.

The loss of the hook shoot is really the greatest indictment of modern players. Most centers including Embiid and Giannis can't even do a short jump hook.

That's one shot Wemby should be perfecting, especially because like Kareem he has a wiry frame and he's 3 inches taller.

Also, did you see the effort they were giving? They were playing harder then the recent All-Star games.
Their fundamentals were better back then. 90% of the moves today would get called for traveling or "palming."

I would love for Kareem to mentor him.

I really would like if someone in the know told us why they are not using it. It really can't be that they're unable. It's not that difficult. Most stiffs back in the day could do it, when they could do nothing else.
With Wemby, it would be legitimately unstoppable and he could extend his range well outside the paint as well. Literally just spend a summer training with Hakeem or Kareem if he does that kind of thing.

Might think it doesn't look too cool to do.
Shaq refused to have Rick Barry train him for free throws because the form looked corny.
Dolph Schayes could hook with his right and left hand.

This is where the conversations get strange though.
I mean…they could learn it fairly easily if they needed to. It’s not like they’re physiologically incapable of doing such a thing.
It goes both ways when people talking about older people not being able to shoot the same way too.

Ive definitely Seen Embiid and Giannis make jump hooks. It just isn’t a significant part of their game.

Those aren't your traditional jump Hooks they do. More so push shots with one hand (is that a jump hook tho ... maybe.)
Crazy thing is, I didn't even know that hook was on Jerry Lucas and Hondos arsenal.
