In listening to Michael Jordan talk about things outside of basketball, I would place him up there as well. His understanding of people showcases an extraordinary level of emotional intelligence. I would say he's smarter than Barkley.

Probably Bill Bradley - at least in terms of standard achievements. Princeton, Rhodes Scholar, US Senator. When with the Knicks, he was their highest paid player. He played on short contracts because he knew he could have an excellent career outside of ball.

That team in general was super smart - Debusschere (an early player/coach, and later great administrator); Phil Jackson; Jerry Lucas (published a book on memory enhancement); Dick Barnett (got a doctorate after his playing career).

Otherwise, maybe Bill Russell or Kareem.
