The full impact of the pause is not yet clear, although the memo specifies that Medicare and Social Security benefits are not affected. It comes days after the US halted nearly all foreign aid.

A whole lot of people that didn't vote for him are absolutely outraged over it right now. He's also probably going to gut FEMA. Too much money goes to their bureaucracy and he's pissed at them for asking for and receiving nearly 3/4 of a billion dollars to house illegal migrants, literally 10s of thousands spent on each illegal, while the North Carolina hurricane victims got $750. In most cases it would simply be more effective handing over the money directly to the state to help out disaster victims.

The White House on Tuesday announced the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) had discovered and halted an outgoing payment of $50 million for “condoms in Gaza.”

The revelation came during the first press briefing of the new Trump administration. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reviled the expense as a waste of critical taxpayer money.

DOGE and OMB also found that there was about to be $50 million taxpayer dollars that went out the door to fund condoms in Gaza,” she said. “That is a preposterous waste of taxpayer money.”

DOGE head Elon Musk remarked via X such an expense was the “tip of iceberg,” adding that “my guess is that a lot of that money ended up in the pockets Hamas, not actually condoms.”
