I assume Texas split its picks and Dallas would be second because of it…. But still a bad look

It's not surprising. LA should be a contender almost every year, almost every player says they grew up wanting to be a Laker.

Poor other teams wouldn't stand a chance. :(

That little area on the east coast is always hard to read on these maps. So Delaware picked the Sixers? And I'm assuming DC picked the Lakers? Nobody ever wants to be a Wizard :oldlol:

You really feel for the midatlantic region with the Wizards, Bobcats, and Hawks.

Lol Atlanta is about as un-Dixie as it gets :lol

But I am actually surprised that Wisconsin had the Bucks there. Would have thought it would be the bulls. I bet that’s changed in the last 5-6 years.

dood I've actually played w/ a lot of these dudes on 2k. They ain't ballers. Plus Bron is a ****ing 97. That's like MJ/Larry Bird level. And they got AD. I bet the Lakers would still be a team that could compete in team v team mode. But after playing 2k online (altho, each year I play less cuz shit is killin' me,) I can say I dunno how many of these people even watch basketball.

Edit: Xiao pickin' Utah like the rest of his country ey.

Should be easy to be humble when they've been lottery or play-in for the last four years despite having a stacked team.

Anyone who ever wondered why Kobe, despite being a brilliant player, was ranked as highly all time as he was, need to look no further than this graphic.

That truly sums it up.

If he had played anywhere else and didn't have Shaq he'd basically be considered TMac with longevity.

Not surprised the non-nba states default to lakers on principle, but where the lakers really have an outsized presence seems to be in the southeast. Whenever lakers travel to play games in Atlanta, New Orleans, Charlotte, or Memphis, those arenas are basically home games for the lakers.

I dont know that Lakers fans are an outsized presence among people living in those areas, so much as those are the cities with the cheapest tickets so Laker fans turn up for games there more often.

Harder for traveling Laker fans to get a ticket to a game vs the Knicks or OKC or wherever games are a big deal locally.

Proving that having teams based on a City, State, or Country is stupid.

Like why the hell would capitalist smart businessmen limit their brand to one region? It’s stupid as hell. Like really dumb.

I’m waiting for the first expansion team that is not designated to one area. And I’ll root for them.

Edit

Honest question are there rules that make it that a team has to be connected to a specific city or area?

It's crazy that teams are relegated to just one location, they could build arenas in different parts of the country, have their players, coaches and staff constantly on the road for 7-8 months in a row.

Corporations could build their own super teams and duel in out on PPV’s.

Amazon could build a super team and go against Googles super team.

This idea that basketball has to be played through an NBA season and NBA teams is so antiquated it’s hilarious.

And ratings prove it.

Why would that be alternative be better? If there are no city/state/country affiliations why would anyone that isn't already a player stan care?

Other than the top couple of teams, no one would make any money.

Build a brand beyond a city and many people would care. There are massive global brands that aren’t restricted by a specific city holding them down.

If Amazon right now signed the top 12 players to a team then Google signed the next 12 and we had a 7 game series PPV…….

That’s sparks a lot attention.

And people would care.

It's basketball. The brand is all the same. The only differentiator is where the teams are located.

No you are wrong. Maybe if the NBA would’ve built team and regional rivalries like the NFL did you’d be correct.

But no one who watches basketball cares about teams, or regions, or anything other than the superstars.

So field a team that has no specific geographical position but has stars and shit………

So I'll circle back to...you'll have a couple of teams that people will watch and the rest of the teams won't have any fans. At least The Hornets have people in New Orleans that watch them and go to games.

The whole NBA is a communist entity that makes up for the teams failing.

Profit sharing is what keeps Charlotte and New Orleans alive as teams.

It’s fake as shit.

Just pull the bandaid off and let real corps build teams regardless of city or state bullshit.

While it may be different for those from Atlanta due to how long the franchise has been there, it's important to understand that for several of us over the age of 40 from these cities, we had already come of age in terms of our basketball fandom before the current franchises moved to our cities/ regions. For instance, I was 24 when the Grizzlies moved here to Memphis. Many of us grew up as Showtime Lakers fans in the 80's and became Orlando Magic fans in the 90's solely because of Penny. There is a longer history of Laker fandom in this city than Grizzly fandom. It may be similar for places like New Orleans and Charlotte.

The same phenomenon exists here for the NFL. Most of my family here are either Cowboys or Steelers fans and have been so for generations. We have very few Titans fans.

Take Bron off the Lakers and tell me what America’s team is again. It’s 2k, players don’t pick Lakers because they are fans of the team. Bron and AD are 2 top 95 overall players. And they compliment each other when it comes to playstyle on 2k for users. You want to argue lakers are americas team or whatever? Do not use 2k. Horrible example and proves nothing

I mean I'd be down for a certain level of incompetence forcing teams into a lower division like some of the other leagues worldwide. Seems like a fair compromise.
