Fox missed a handful of the post-Mike Brown games where they were running up wins. And of course he was out tonight after the trade and they still beat Toody's Wolves.

DeRozan has played well this year but the pairing with Fox wasnt anything special. I like Fox and he'll be good in SA but he is an averaged size, one dimensional guard. Not a defender, not a prolific passer, not really a great floor spacer. He mainly can create for himself pretty efficiently and then create for other to an average extent. Hes got a stable, mature personality which is a big part of his value. Him and Derozan felt redundant.

Lavine has a more three level game and is having a nice year, and the guard who is replacing Fox, Keon Ellis, IS a strong defender. So I think the replacement of Fox with Lavine and Ellis in the lineup could be an upgrade in practice. You got Demar and Lavine reuniting, and theyll be playing with a much better center in Sabonis than what Vuc was giving them in Chicago the last three years.

They do have some depth limitations. But Monk, Ellis, Lavine, DeRozan and Domas is a pretty dang competitive starting five. And again the team is already like, what, 10-3 as it is since the Mike Brown wake up call.

Really curious to see how they finish the season and what kinda noise they might make.
