Grimes is expiring, maybe didnt see a financial path to keeping him.

Pretty questionable move by Nico, but still giving him the benefit of the doubt as a competent GM.

Martin has a reputation for being a Celtics killer.

Obvious that Nico has taken over the Mavs organisation and thinks he is some kind of mastermind.

The guy just got Anthony Davis, of course he's a mastermind.

Martin is on a really team feiendy contract. Apparently they were trying to sign him in F.A this summer. Nico did say he was after defense.
I am hoping this is to clear the books to re-sign Yabusele this summer because they can not keep him on the roster unless Morey clears som cap space.

Yabusele, the Eurogoat.

See, I thought this was Mavs gaining advantage, unless Philly knows Martin has some issue.
Martin should have an ECF MVP under his belt.

Mavs might lose 25-35% of their ticket sales & viewership off top right away.
Imagine if AD doesn’t play much the rest of the season, and they get knocked out of a play-in game. Mavs might lose another chunk of their fanbase who didn’t boycott them RN.

I am a little surprised by the trade but I assume Morey was trying to clear cap space and Martin's contract was very attractive so he was easy to move.
He has been injured a lot this season, he is actually hurt right now.

Mavs fans on reddit are taking it hard. Would not be surprised if your theory is correct, run Mavs into the ground and move to Las Vegas

Luxury tax move. They are about $7mil over now and have til the end of this week to get under. Not sure what other move could be made. KJ Martin?

Martin is considered a better defender. Grimes has slightly better offensive numbers, but it's marginal.

I think KJ Martin almost certainly goes.
When I read the headline that said Martin was traded to the Mavs I immediately thought it was KJ. I was actually pretty shocked when I found out it was Caleb.
If they duck the tax, which Morey is undoubtedly going to do, it will make it easier to re-sign Yabusele. If he can't do that then he has to trade Yabu or he will be gone for nothing at the end of the season.
Of course he can just let him play the rest of the season and then walk but that would be a strange option considering he has high trade value atm.

I was gonna say, if there's somehow a rematch in the Finals, its a guarantee the Mavs win and Martin wins FMVP.
