View Full Version : Dennis Schröder Calls Being an NBA Player "Modern Slavery"

Full Court

Because apparently in his mind, getting traded is the equivalent of slavery.

https://sports.yahoo.com/dennis-schroder-lands-with-third-team-in-18-hours-days-after-comparing-nba-trade-deadline-to-modern-slavery-212543138.html

It’s like modern slavery. It’s modern slavery at the end of the day. Everybody can decide where you’re going, even if you have a contract. Yeah, of course, we make a lot of money and we can feed our families, but at the end of the day if they say, ‘You’re not coming to work tomorrow, you’re going over there,’ they can decide that.

Nobody explained to him that he has a choice whether or not he wants to be an NBA player? :lol

That victim mentality is so deep rooted in some of these dudes it's unbelievable. Subhuman IQ type shit.

Slavery sure has gotten much better in modern times. If Dennis' ancestors had this kind of slavery, they would be lining up to join. Even the slave owners would be lining up.

It is slavery. It’s not like ‘the old’ slavery.

The way they look at people like assets and trade them around is sus. The combine is sus. Nobody seems to have rights to themselves. You can still sign yourself into slavery. I totally get how musicians and such don’t wanna sign their rights away, either.

This is why it is modern slavery: these people are top, I dunno what even.. .001%? And that’s considering only those who intend to be great at sports. How do they get in? They get checked over, they test them out, they plug them into a system and then trade them around like they are not human. ‘It’s business,’ and yeah, it is, but it does seem a lot like slavery when you take the compensation out of it. Even the deals they sign with companies, like they are stock cars or something.

Buuut it’s more of a philosophical thing kinda like much of the music industry and hollywood are like slaves. Not like this tho where they are measuring their arms hana.

In fairness to Dennis, he has been traded about 50 times. Probably gets tiring.

People who say stuff like this should really live the way slaves lived back in the 1800s and re-evaluate their lives. You literally can do anything with your life right now. Whether black, white, or whatever race. Schroder has earned over $100 million for his career as an NBA basketball player. Think about that. A player like Schroder who has been above average his whole career as a scorer has earned one-tenth of a billion dollars for his life and still is earning money, but he compares his life to a slave? He has no idea what in the f*ck he's talking about.

He is a slave and so is everyone else selling their labor for money.

The problem with dudes like Schroeder is they never publicly speak out for the little guy 9 to 5 slaves. Only the rich athlete ones. Athletes never put themselves on the line to help fight for the economic rights of the common or underprivileged man.

I’ll respect the NBA players union once they stand on the picket line and use their power to help support other workers/slaves. Until then this kind of rhetoric is always gonna be cringe coming a rich basketball player.

These guys, even the worst paid players at the end of the bench, can earn enough before 30 to achieve generational wealth if they handle their finances properly. Most people will never earn in their lifetime what Schroder made this year alone. A bit of perspective is needed.

I'm pretty sure this is along the lines of what he's thinking. Maybe he should had took a minute to flesh out the thought.

From a 60mins interview last year with Rich Paul talking about this very thing.

Bill Whitaker: Some people say that you are destroying the player loyalty to the teams and the fans?

Rich Paul: Player loyalty to what? If I could be traded in the middle of the night to another team what I should be is educating myself to where if this is-- isn't goin' the way I thought it was supposed to go, I can switch up, right? We're not confined.

Bill Whitaker: Have options.

Rich Paul: I have op-. What's the sense of havin' money with no options?

The “they trade you” crap is hilarious.

The same shit happens to middle class people too.

Most people have worked for companies that try to transfer you.

They’ll threaten you with the classic “your city’s office might close”, or the “if you wanna move up the ladder you go where the company wants you to go”.

People in the military are forced to move all over.

So if athletes want any sympathy they have to voice and give equal support to common people.

Trump should dismantle the NBA on the grounds that it's unconstitutional slavery, and then see what the players have to say :lol

I guarantee some players would make more money.

Not everyone.

But real peeps would make Joe Rogan every bit of content I own kind of money.

Schroeder unless he got personality or only fans game probably doesn’t make shit.

I legit think we need to give (bout to get racist here!) black people the rights to their shit tho.

They should have a lot of stake in the nba, nfl, music etc. That would change a lot imo, in their prosperity, the quality of the product. It makes no sense to have white boomers owning everything. Then you got like MJ and Rich Paul as big movers, maybe like Magic.

Seems like Rich Paul has a big bone to pick, too. If they’d let them rightly control and monetize what is mostly their shit, everything would be better.

What a way to get yourself out of the NBA. I hope no one signs him. Dude just talks way too much. his talk is more notable than his performance on the hardwood; I dont care for it.
