The full reasoning on why Luka Doncic got traded from the Mavs according to Dumont

Dumont made it clear to The News that he, too, is a big believer in culture, and in specific traits the Mavericks want in players.

“In my mind the way teams win is by focus, by having the right character, by having the right culture, and having the right dedication to work as hard as possible to create a championship-winning outcome,” Dumont said. “And if you’re not doing that, you’re going to lose.”

Dumont’s tone again turned forceful.

“If you look at the greats in the league, the people you and I grew up with — [Michael] Jordan, [Larry] Bird, Kobe [Bryant], Shaq [O’Neal] — they worked really hard, every day, with a singular focus to win,” he said. “And if you don’t have that, it doesn’t work. And if you don’t have that, you shouldn’t be part of the Dallas Mavericks.

“That’s who we want. I’m unwavering on this. The entire organization knows this. This is how I operate outside of basketball. This is the only way to be competitive and win. If you want to take a vacation, don’t do it with us.”

It was pointed out to Dumont that when people read those comments, the assumption will be he is inferring that Doncic did not fit those winning culture qualities.

“Look, I think there’s a lot of things that come into play when you decide the roster of the team,” Dumont said. “And culture is very important. That’s what we’re focused on.”

Not sure he should be throwing Shaq's name into the mix with MJ, Kobe and Bird when it comes to work ethic lol.

Shaq probably the best example of why you make the deal

Jesus christ the cope is strong and embarrassing. The way to win is by having the best talent and not trading your 25 year old superstar after a finals run.

Going into the 2nd apron paying a fatass 350 mill isnt smart either

Figured this is why it happened. Luka/Mavs fans will hate this but it's his team and he clearly didn't have a good relationship with Doncic so he got rid of him before Doncic left for nothing. Luka can deny that part but you don't just trade a 25 y.o franchise cornerstone like that unless you have problems with the guy and/or think he's about to leave for nothing anyway.

What about a $200 million contract for no offense, some rebounding and a few blocked shots for Minny?

Been underpaid his whole career. Opposite of the elite talent of donic. Hof career because of working harder than most players

Keeping your generational superstar coming off a finals run is as much of a no-brainer as drinking water to stay alive. I wouldn't call it smart either, because it would've required zero thinking.

I get why they did it. Not sure why you take unibrow without a bidding war though

This guy isnt “the owner” he married one of the owner’s kids. He’s a little fat **** himself, who didn’t get to where he is by hard work, he did it thru nepotism, after marrying into a psychotic Jewish mafia family who owns casinos worldwide.

That’s a big part of what makes it so utterly suspicious, and why damn near everyone instinctually knows it’s shady, corrupt, and that something isn’t right.

1. Nobody (fu@king absolutely nobody) makes a big trade without utilizing the leverage that comparative offers force.

2. Day-To-Davis waived his 5.9million dollar trade kicker immediately, with no fuss. What the fu@k is that about ? Doesn’t add up.

He can do his job the same as a short fatass though. Luka cant. No excuse in 2025 for not being in the best shape possible when you make hundreds of millions

I’m not saying they’re wrong for taking the first deal.

I’m saying they’re massively suspiciously wrong FOR NOT REACHING OUT TO OVER 25 TEAMS !!!

If Kobe was alive he wouldn’t want this fat unconditioned whale on the Lakers.

Kobe is rolling over in his grave that the face of the Lakers is gonna be a fat white boy who comes into training camp out of shape every season.

Lmao.

Shaq! :facepalm

rofl saw that. Well, Shaq did more than just about anyone else. He's still working his ass off, but it's not all basketball.

I think Luka has to be a hard worker. Nobody has that much natural talent. That's one of the biggest myths, that people have tru talent that they don't cultivate at all. Dude would fall off. If he can put up 30+, he's working hard.

I dunno what is going on with his body, but I don't think he's lazy. I don't think Shaq was lazy, either. Shaq was just a dick. When he was under the right leadership (like Riley,) he did it right. He was out there giving it his all as an old ass man when his team was getting blown out. He didn't like Riley, but that worked for him. Luka probably needs someone like that, and he probably needs a teammate to help him. I dunno if Bron is that dude or not, but he has way more of a chance with Bron than Kyrie. Kyrie is a give a dude his space kinda guy. Bron I could see telling Luka he needs to do more, which is what he needs to hear, regardless of if it's true.
