Nah, it doesn't get me excited anymore because it's expected that he'll get hurt.
Although I thought it was funny he said he's fine, but I guess fine for him is being out multiple weeks.

Another perplexing part about the trade. I like both the Mavs with Doncic and the Mavs with AD...but trading one player for conditioning concerns as it relates to a pattern of injuries to acquire a player who is a known entity with long term injuries is a bit of a head scratcher. AD misses a lot of games for just about anything and Luka plays and dominates in playoff series even with multiple substantial lingering injuries.

He re-aggravated the same injury.... did Dallas rush him back? Did he feel obligated to show he's good to go?

All we need now is for Luka to go down as soon as he returns.

Could happen. Most of his injuries are lower leg related. Calf injuries can linger and easily get reaggervated.

This is definitely one of the big plot holes in the narrative.
But, it is what it is. The media's never going to question the formal account and neither are most people.
And so we just keep it moving.

What makes the most sense to Dallas though (in the long run) is that they won't have to pay either player 70mil a season

Theyre gonna have to pay people anyway. Theres a salary cap floor and if you wanna compete for a title youre gonna spend way beyond it regardless.
The supermax numbers are where they are now because of where revenue is, and the players contractually receive a % of that revenue. The team's not gonna just pocket money by not signing Doncic. And the injury thing doesnt make sense either in the NBA context. Philly just gave Joel Embiid another max. Zion is on the max. Anthony Davis. Bradley Beal. KAWHI LEONARD IS ON A MAX. Hell Giannis has as much injury history as Luka.
There has never been any scenario in the NBA as far as I can tell where a team passed on a guy as elite and in his prime as this, over modest injury concerns or "financial prudence."
It's not a plausible, believable explanation here.

If the Mavs had traded Luka for Giannis or Edwards and called him fat on the way out I would get it.
But what evidence is there that AD is a worker or is in shape? That dude is goofy built and misses more games than anyone not named Zion. Gives a BS effort half the time. He may play more D than Luka but that doesn’t make up for the fact that he is MIA half the time, even when he’s on the court.
Wait, Dallas, until you see him take two FGA in the second half a key game. And then come at me with his defense.
Nico is a crack head in a nice suit and a fancy job. I’d rather have a homeless guy panhandling on the street lead my team.

Yes they're going have to pay "people" not just one player. They're taking a huge chance by gambling on themselves by spreading that money into a contender.

I dont disagree with the philosophy necessarily, but history shows teams NEVER do that.
The supermax was put in place to keep high profile superstars with the teams that drafted them. Teams want to keep players like Luka when they have him. As I pointed out, there is a plethora of less accomplished, more injury prone players who teams nevertheless gave max and supermax contracts. And the Mavs just MADE the Finals last year. Luka made the finals as a star younger than MJ or Bron.
The Mavs trading Luka over the cost of the supermax is not a serious proposition by NBA standards. It massively stretches credulity.

I feel bad, AD is a legit superstar but the dumbass NBA fanbase just constantly clowns on him for getting injured which he can't really do anything about. He's very different than someone like Embiid who not only is always hurt, but is a legit mental midget and has a loser mentality.

Please, AD has the same loser tendencies. Disappears when it matters most.
Boy does he love his FT bricks in crunchtime.

Crazy thing is AD didn't have any major injury since Jan 2023. He gets traded to Dallas and first game there he gets seriously injured.

AD is not even close to Embiid in that regard. Are you serious?
No one in history falls off as much as Embiid does from regular season to postseason.

He got hurt while still with LA shortly before the trade.

You have to pay people but there is a big difference between the salary floor and having lots of flexibilty with your roster and now with the 2nd apron and having little flexibilty.

I think Luka will be on an absolute mission especially since the Mavs management threw him under the bus.

Word.
Almost seems like the Lakers doctors with AD got away with what the Charlotte Doctors didn’t with Williams.
AD’s abdominal tear might have been much more serious that LA let on, 4 weeks ago, when Nico fell victim to Pelinka’s first charming coffee date with him.

To be honest. I don't want to see Davis injured nor anyone for that matter even though it might seem that way. I do want to see how a healthy Davis does on this Mavs team, and how well Luka does.

That's okay. Lakers replaced injury prone Davis with Williams who is more injury prone. Oh wait, no they did. They reversed the trade and have no center anymore.
In all fairness I love Hayes activity since the trade. Redick should go to him and tell him, "I'm going to guarantee you 25-30 minutes a game as long as you play hard like you have with that energy, but as soon as you drop a step I'm reducing it for someone else."
See what the kid can do with guaranteed playing time.

^Word, I don’t hate Davis or wish him ill.
But his injury IN THE FORST GAWD DAMNED GAME,
couldn’t have happened to a more deserving new Mavericks ownership.
Those type of abdominal surgeries are generally a success, but it would end his season.
Which takes a huge greasy sh!t on Nico’s bullsh!t public cover story of “winning now”

Lakers were actually planning to hold off AD’s return until after all star break. Mavs should have done the same but were in panic mode after the trade backlash that they rushed AD back out there and now he’s hurt. Nightmare front office.
